Lympstone is a lovely village and civil parish in East Devon, England. It's located in the county of Devon. About 1,754 people live here.

The village has a small harbour on the River Exe estuary. This harbour is nestled between red cliffs. North of the harbour is a flat grassy area called Cliff Field. The National Trust looks after this field. It's often used for football games and other local events.

Lympstone has train services on the Avocet Line. You can travel to Exmouth and Exeter from Lympstone Village railway station.

The village is famous for Peter's Tower. This brick clock tower was built around 1885. W.H. Peters built it to remember his wife. Another unique tradition is residents drying their washing on the beach. The houses by the river are right on the shore. There isn't a long wall to protect them from the sea. Passageways between the houses lead to the beach. These have metal flood gates. Residents close them when they get warnings about high tides.

Lympstone celebrates an old tradition called the Furry Dance. It happens on the first Saturday of August. Many visitors come to the village for this event. Villagers dress up in fancy costumes and perform a traditional dance. A brass band plays music for them. They walk from the village centre to The Saddlers Arms and back.

Lympstone Manor is a historic house. Today, it's a hotel and restaurant. The local church is the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Close to the village is the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM). This is the main training place for the Royal Marines. The training centre has its own private train stop. It's called Lympstone Commando. It's not for public use.

Sports and Fun Activities

Lympstone has a football club called Lympstone AFC. It was started in 1895. They have two adult teams and 16 youth teams. The youth teams are for players aged 7 to 16. You can find more information at lympstoneafc.org.uk.

The Royal Marines A.F.C. was another local football club. They played at Endurance Park CTCRM. However, they stopped playing in April 2012.

A popular cycle route goes through Lympstone. This path connects Exeter and Exmouth. It's great for people cycling to work or just for fun. Before this path, cyclists had to use the busy A376 road. The cycle route goes right through the village centre. This helps local shops, cafes, and pubs. It makes the village centre more lively. Some people want to change the route. They think it could be safer for everyone.

The 1st Lympstone Sea Scouts Group celebrated 100 years in 2012. They have active Scout and Cub sections. They meet at the Scout HQ on Cliff Field.
