Lyonsdale is a small town located in Lewis County, New York, in the United States. In 2010, about 1,227 people lived there. The town gets its name from its main community and from Caleb Lyon, who founded it. You can find Lyonsdale in the southeastern part of Lewis County, just north of a place called Boonville.

A Look Back: Lyonsdale's History
People first settled in the area now known as Lyonsdale in 1819. Caleb Lyons, who helped start the town, was a big supporter of the Black River Canal. This canal was important for moving goods. The town of Lyonsdale was officially created in 1873. It was formed from a part of the town of Greig. For a long time, the main way people made a living here was by working with forest products, like wood pulp.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town of Lyonsdale covers a total area of about 70.1 square miles (181.57 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 68.7 square miles (178.04 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 1.4 square miles (3.53 square kilometers), is water.
Rivers and Borders
The Black River forms the western border of the town, separating it from the town of Leyden. To the east, Lyonsdale borders the town of Webb in Herkimer County. The southern border touches the town of Boonville in Oneida County. To the north, it borders the town of Greig.
Adirondack Park and Moose River
A part of Lyonsdale is located inside the beautiful Adirondack Park. The Moose River, which eventually flows into the Black River, also runs through the town.

In 2000, there were 1,273 people living in Lyonsdale. These people made up 468 households and 336 families. The town had about 18.5 people per square mile (6.83 per square kilometer). There were 703 housing units, which are places where people live.

- Mud Shanty Corners – This is a place where three roads meet: Moose River Road, North South Road, and Wildcat Road. It's east of the village of Port Leyden.
- Port Leyden – Similar to Lyons Falls, a section of the village of Port Leyden, east of the Black River, is also part of the town of Lyonsdale.
- Porters Corners – This location is where Moose River Road and Boonville Road cross paths, close to the town's southern border.
- Pennysettlement – You can find this area northeast of the village of Port Leyden, inside the Adirondack Park.
- Shuetown – This location is west of the hamlet of Lyonsdale, on the north side of the Moose River.
