History of Mühledorf
Mühledorf was first written about in the year 1364. Back then, it was called Mülidorf.
Early History and Changes
During the Middle Ages, Mühledorf was part of an area controlled by a powerful family, the Barons of Kramburg. In 1373, the village was given to a special religious group called the Münchenbuchsee Commandery.
Later, in 1528, the city of Bern decided to follow a new Christian faith, the Protestant Reformation. This meant they took control of the Commandery's lands. Mühledorf then became part of Bern's territory. In 1533, it was placed under the local court of Gelterfingen. The village has always been part of the church area of Kirchdorf.
Modern Changes and Work
Between 1855 and 1911, big projects helped drain the swampy land near the Gürbe and Müsche rivers. This created more farmland for people to use. It also made it easier to build roads to nearby towns like Belp and Rümligen.
Even today, farming is still an important job in Mühledorf. However, many people who live there now travel to other towns for work. About two-thirds of the workers commute to jobs in bigger cities nearby.
