Marc Zumoff, born on November 18, 1955, is an American sports announcer. He is famous for being the main voice for the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team. He would describe all the action as it happened during games.

Marc also worked for big sports networks like NBC Sports and Turner Sports. He covered important events like the 2016 Rio Olympics women's basketball. He even announced games for the Philadelphia Union soccer team. After 27 years, Marc retired from the 76ers in 2021.

Today, Marc runs his own company, Zumoff Productions. It helps new sports and news announcers learn the ropes. He also helped write a college textbook called Total Sportscasting.

Marc's Early Career in Sports

Marc Zumoff went to Temple University in Philadelphia. While there, he announced games for the Temple Owls football and basketball teams. He started his first broadcasting job in 1977 at a radio station in Trenton, New Jersey.

He also worked at other radio stations, covering news. At one station, WHWH Radio, he became the voice for Princeton University's football and basketball games. Marc also did freelance work for KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia.

Becoming a Play-by-Play Announcer

A friend helped Marc get an audition to announce games for the Philadelphia Fever. This was a soccer team in the Major Indoor Soccer League. He got the job!

Later, a TV network called PRISM hired Marc. In 1983, he became the host for the 76ers' pre-game, halftime, and post-game shows. He sometimes filled in to announce games for other teams too. These included the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team and local college basketball games. He also covered events like the Dad Vail Regatta rowing race.

Marc has also kept up his connection to news. He has filled in as a host for a public affairs show on a local radio station.

Voice of the Philadelphia 76ers

Marc Zumoff worked for 27 seasons as the main TV announcer for the Sixers. He was part of the 76ers broadcast team for 36 years in total. Marc is from Philadelphia, so this was a special job for him.

He officially became the play-by-play announcer in 1994. Before that, he hosted the team's shows for 11 years. Marc has won many awards for his announcing. He won the Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for best sports play-by-play broadcaster 18 times!

During his time with the Sixers, Marc worked with six different partners. These included former players like Steve Mix and Eric Snow. Marc retired after the 2021 Sixers season. Kate Scott took over his role.

Marc Zumoff lives with his wife, Debbie. They have two sons. Marc is also a big fan of the soccer team Tottenham Hotspur.
