Marcelo Arévalo: A Tennis Star

Early Life and Family

Marcelo is married to Lucia and they have two young sons. One of his sons, Marcelito, even joined him on the court after his big win at Wimbledon in 2026! Marcelo's older brother, Rafael Arévalo, was also a tennis player. They often played together to represent El Salvador in the Davis Cup.

Journey to Professional Tennis

As a junior player, Marcelo was ranked as high as No. 8 in the world. He won seven singles and doubles titles in junior tournaments. He turned professional in 2012.

First Big Wins and Top Rankings

Marcelo broke into the top 100 in doubles in February 2018. Six months later, he won his first ATP title at the 2018 Los Cabos Open with Miguel Ángel Reyes-Varela. This victory helped him enter the top 50 doubles players. In 2021, he won his second career title at the Winston-Salem Open with Matwé Middelkoop. That same year, he reached his first Grand Slam final in mixed doubles at the US Open.

Grand Slam Success and World No. 1

In 2022, Marcelo teamed up with Jean-Julien Rojer. They quickly won two titles at the Dallas Open and Delray Beach Open. Their biggest achievement came at the French Open, where they won their first Grand Slam title together. This made Marcelo the first Central American player to win a men's doubles major. He then entered the top 10 doubles rankings in June 2022 and reached a career-high of World No. 5 in November 2022.

In 2023, Marcelo and Rojer won their first Masters 1000 title at the Canadian Open.

Winning Major Tournaments

In 2024, Marcelo partnered with Mate Pavić. They won their second French Open men's doubles title together. This win was special for Pavić, who completed a career Golden Slam. Marcelo and Pavić also won their second Masters title at the 2024 Cincinnati Open. On November 11, 2024, Marcelo became the World No. 1 in doubles, along with Pavić. They also finished the year as the top-ranked doubles team. They reached the final of the ATP Finals that year.

In March 2025, Marcelo and Pavić won the Indian Wells Masters. They then won the Miami Open in the same month, becoming only the sixth team in history to win both "Sunshine Double" Masters titles. They also won the Italian Open in May 2025.
