Andrea Vavassori (born May 5, 1995) is a professional tennis player from Italy. He is especially skilled in doubles, where players team up in pairs. His highest world ranking in doubles was No. 6, which he achieved on October 14, 2024. In singles, where he plays one-on-one, his best ranking was No. 128, reached on June 19, 2023.

Andrea is a Grand Slam champion! Grand Slams are the four most important tennis tournaments globally. He won two Grand Slam titles in mixed doubles (where a man and a woman play together on a team) with his partner Sara Errani. They won the 2024 US Open and the 2025 French Open. With his men's doubles partner Simone Bolelli, Andrea has also reached three Grand Slam finals: at the 2024 Australian Open, the 2025 Australian Open, and the 2024 French Open.

Throughout his career, Andrea has won nine ATP Tour doubles titles. The ATP Tour is the main global tour for professional men's tennis. He was also a key member of the Italian team that won the 2024 Davis Cup, a major international team competition.

A fun fact: At the 2024 Summer Olympics, Andrea was very busy! He and Sara Errani were the only tennis players to compete in all three events: singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.

Tennis Career Highlights

Andrea Vavassori has had many exciting moments in his professional tennis career.

2021: First Big Win in Doubles

In 2021, Andrea won his very first ATP Tour doubles title. This exciting victory happened at the 2021 Sardegna Open in Italy. He teamed up with another Italian player, Lorenzo Sonego, to win the tournament.

2022: Playing at Wimbledon

The year 2022 was special because Andrea played in the singles tournament at Wimbledon for the first time. Wimbledon is one of the most famous Grand Slam events, known for its grass courts. To get into the main tournament, he had to win several qualifying matches. In his first main match at Wimbledon, he played against Frances Tiafoe from the USA.

2023: Big Steps Forward

Andrea had a very busy and successful year in 2023, making great progress in both singles and doubles.

Singles Success in 2023

He played in the main singles draw of the 2023 Córdoba Open. Later, at the 2023 Grand Prix Hassan II in Morocco, he reached his first ATP singles quarterfinal. A quarterfinal means he was one of the last eight players remaining in the tournament! To get there, he defeated strong players like Nicolás Jarry and Jaume Munar.

A huge moment came at the 2023 Mutua Madrid Open, which is a very important Masters 1000 event. Andrea won his qualifying matches to enter the main tournament and then won his first-round match against Andy Murray, a famous player who used to be ranked No. 1 in the world!

At the 2023 French Open, another Grand Slam tournament, he had an amazing first-round win. He beat Miomir Kecmanović in a very long and tough match that lasted 5 hours and 10 minutes! Andrea even saved five match points, meaning he was very close to losing five times but kept fighting to win. This was his first-ever victory in a Grand Slam singles match. He also played at the 2023 Halle Open on grass as a "lucky loser." This happens when a player loses in the qualifying rounds but still gets a spot in the main tournament if another player drops out.

Doubles Wins in 2023

In doubles, Andrea won his second ATP title with his partner Andrea Pellegrino at the 2023 Chile Open. This victory helped him get into the top 50 of the world doubles rankings. He also won another doubles title at the 2023 Grand Prix Hassan II with Marcelo Demoliner.

2024: Grand Slam Glory, Olympic Dreams, and Davis Cup Triumph

The year 2024 was incredible for Andrea, filled with major achievements, especially in doubles.

Reaching Grand Slam Doubles Finals in 2024

He started a new partnership with fellow Italian Simone Bolelli, and they quickly became a very strong team. Together, they reached their first Grand Slam final at the Australian Open! Later in the year, they made it to another Grand Slam final at the French Open. Reaching two Grand Slam finals in one year is a fantastic accomplishment. Their success helped Andrea climb into the top 10 of the world doubles rankings. By October 14, 2024, he reached his highest-ever doubles ranking: No. 6 in the world! Andrea and Simone also won the China Open title. Fans really enjoyed watching them play, and they even won the ATP Fans’ Favourite doubles team award for 2024.

Winning a Grand Slam in Mixed Doubles in 2024

Andrea also had amazing success in mixed doubles, where a male and female player team up. He partnered with Sara Errani, and they won the US Open mixed doubles title! This was Andrea's first Grand Slam championship win, a very special moment in his career.

Playing in the 2024 Olympics

A big dream came true for Andrea when he represented Italy at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He competed in singles, men's doubles (with Bolelli), and mixed doubles (with Errani). He even won a singles match at the Olympic Games!

Davis Cup Champion in 2024

A major highlight of 2024 was being part of the Italian team that won the 2024 Davis Cup. The Davis Cup is a prestigious international event where countries compete, similar to a World Cup for men's tennis.

Singles Highlights in 2024

In singles, Andrea reached his second ATP quarterfinal at the Argentina Open. During this tournament, he defeated Laslo Djere, who was ranked No. 35 in the world at the time. This was one of the best wins of his singles career. He also had the chance to play against Carlos Alcaraz, one of the top players in the world. He also qualified for the Miami Open and won his first match there before playing against Jannik Sinner, another top Italian player and eventual champion.

2025: Continued Success

Andrea continued to perform strongly in 2025, adding more titles and reaching more finals.

Doubles Triumphs in 2025

He and Simone Bolelli started the year by winning the doubles title at the Adelaide International. They then reached the final of the Australian Open for the second year in a row! Later, they won another title at the 2025 ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam, which is an ATP 500 event (these are important tournaments, a step above ATP 250 events). In mixed doubles, Andrea and Sara Errani achieved another fantastic result by winning their second Grand Slam title together at the 2025 French Open!

Singles Surprise in 2025

In singles, Andrea qualified for the 2025 ABN AMRO Open and caused a big surprise by defeating Félix Auger-Aliassime, a former champion of that tournament. (Auger-Aliassime had to stop playing during the match due to injury).
