Mark Hominick, born on July 22, 1982, is a Canadian who used to be a professional mixed martial artist (MMA) fighter. He was known for his amazing boxing skills and accurate punches. Mark fought in big leagues like the UFC and the WEC. He even challenged for the first-ever UFC Featherweight title. He was also a champion in another league called TKO.

Mark Hominick's Early Life and Training

Mark went to Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute when he was a teenager. He learned to fight from a great coach named Shawn Tompkins. Mark trained with another fighter, Sam Stout, at The Adrenaline Training Center in London, Ontario. He also worked there as an instructor. Today, Mark owns this training center with Sam Stout and Chris Horodecki.

Mark Hominick's MMA Career

Mark Hominick had an exciting career in mixed martial arts. He fought in several major organizations.

Fighting in the UFC

Mark Hominick's first fight in the UFC was against Yves Edwards at UFC 58. Mark won this fight in the second round using a special move called a triangle choke.

His next UFC fight was against BJJ expert Jorge Gurgel at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 5. Mark won this match by a unanimous decision, meaning all the judges agreed he won.

Fighting in the WEC

Mark Hominick also fought in the WEC league. His first two WEC fights were losses by submission in the first round. He lost to Rani Yahya at WEC 28 and Josh Grispi at WEC 32.

Mark was supposed to fight Deividas Taurosevičius at WEC 43 in October 2009. However, he got injured and could not fight.

He was then set to fight Yves Jabouin at WEC 46 in January 2010. But Yves Jabouin also got injured. So, Mark fought Bryan Caraway instead and won in the first round by submission.

The fight with Yves Jabouin finally happened at WEC 49 in June 2010. Mark won by TKO in the second round. This exciting fight earned both fighters a "Fight of the Night" award.

Mark's last WEC fight was against Leonard Garcia at WEC 51 in September 2010. He won this fight by a split decision.

Returning to the UFC

In October 2010, the WEC league joined with the UFC. This meant all WEC fighters, including Mark, moved to the UFC.

Mark Hominick faced his former training partner, George Roop, at UFC Fight Night 23 in January 2011. This was an important fight to see who would get a chance to fight for the UFC Featherweight title. Mark won by punches in the first round.

Mark then got his chance to fight for the UFC Featherweight Championship against the champion, José Aldo, at UFC 129 in April 2011. Mark lost the fight by a unanimous decision. However, it was such an exciting fight that both Mark and José Aldo received a "Fight of the Night" bonus award.

Mark's next fight was against Chan Sung Jung, also known as "The Korean Zombie," at UFC 140 in December 2011. Mark tried to attack quickly, but Jung hit him with a counter punch. Mark lost by knockout very quickly in the first round.

He then fought Eddie Yagin at UFC 145 in April 2012. Mark lost this fight by a split decision. This fight also earned both fighters "Fight of the Night" honors.

Mark's last professional fight was against Pablo Garza at UFC 154 in November 2012. He lost this fight by unanimous decision.

Mark Hominick's Retirement

After his fight at UFC 154, Mark Hominick announced his retirement from fighting on December 11, 2012. He said he was grateful to have lived his dream as a fighter. He decided it was time to move on to the next part of his life.

Mark Hominick's Personal Life

Mark Hominick went to I.D.C.I. school in Ingersoll, Ontario. He got married in December 2009 and has two children.

Mark has also been involved in a program to help stop bullying. He worked with other UFC fighters like Sean Pierson, Sam Stout, and Matt Mitrione in Toronto to support this important cause.
