Sam Stout (born April 23, 1984) is a Canadian who used to be a professional mixed martial artist. He fought from 2003 to 2015. Stout is most famous for his 20 fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He won the "Fight of the Night" award seven times. He was also the champion in the Lightweight division for TKO Major League MMA.

Early Life and Training
Sam Stout was born in London, Ontario, Canada, on April 23, 1984. When he was young, he started learning karate, just like his dad. However, he didn't stick with it very seriously at first.
Around the year 2000, his trainer, Shawn Tompkins, encouraged him to try kickboxing. Before he started mixed martial arts, Sam competed in professional kickboxing. He had a good record of 16 wins and 4 losses. He even won a fight against Kotetsu Boku in a big kickboxing event called K-1 Max.
Sam Stout's Fighting Career
Sam Stout became well-known for his exciting fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He was a professional fighter for 12 years.
Joining the UFC
Sam Stout had his first UFC fight at UFC 58: USA vs. Canada on March 4, 2006. He was supposed to fight Kenny Florian, but Kenny got hurt. So, Spencer Fisher stepped in to fight Sam instead. Sam and Spencer had a very exciting fight that lasted three rounds. Sam won the fight by a close decision. Even though it wasn't shown live on TV, it was later shown on "UFC Unleashed." This fight was even voted one of the UFC's 100 greatest fights!
After this, Sam lost to Kenny Florian in June 2006. But he quickly bounced back! He won his next fight against Jay Estrada. In February 2007, Sam defended his TKO World Lightweight Championship by beating Fabio Holanda.
Memorable UFC Fights
Sam Stout returned to the UFC in June 2007. He had a rematch with Spencer Fisher at UFC Fight Night 10, but this time he lost. However, Sam kept fighting and winning.
- In January 2008, he beat Per Eklund from Sweden.
- He then had a close loss to Rich Clementi in April 2008.
- In October 2008, he lost to Terry Etim.
Sam's fight against Matt Wiman at UFC 97 in April 2009 was a big one. He won by decision and the fight was named "Fight of the Night." This award is given to fights that are very exciting and action-packed.
In January 2010, Sam fought Joe Lauzon at UFC 108. He won this fight too, and it also earned "Fight of the Night" honors. This was his fourth time winning that award!
Sam then had another exciting fight against Jeremy Stephens in May 2010. Even though Sam lost this fight, it was still so good that it won "Fight of the Night." This was his fifth time getting the award, tying him for the most in UFC history at that time.
In June 2011, Sam Stout fought Yves Edwards at UFC 131. Sam won this fight with a powerful punch that knocked out his opponent in the first round. This was his first knockout win in the UFC and earned him "Knockout of the Night."
Later Career and Retirement
Sam continued to have many more fights in the UFC.
- In January 2012, he lost a close fight to Thiago Tavares.
- He fought Spencer Fisher for a third time in June 2012 and won by decision. This fight also won "Fight of the Night."
- He lost to John Makdessi in November 2012.
- In February 2013, he won against Caros Fodor.
- He had another "Fight of the Night" against James Krause in June 2013, but he lost that fight.
- He won against Cody McKenzie in December 2013.
Towards the end of his career, Sam faced some tough opponents. He lost to K. J. Noons in April 2014 and to Ross Pearson in March 2015. His last fight was against Frankie Perez in August 2015, which he also lost.
After this fight, Sam Stout announced that he was retiring from mixed martial arts in September 2015. He had a long and exciting career, known for his tough and entertaining fights.
Life Outside the Ring
Sam Stout has a daughter named Logan, born in 2014. He also has another daughter, Sydney, with his wife Jessica Lablanche.
Sam has also been involved in important community work. He joined other UFC fighters like Sean Pierson, Mark Hominick, and Matt Mitrione to be part of an anti-bullying program in Toronto. This program helps teach kids about standing up to bullying.
Sam Stout also co-owns a training center called Adrenaline Training Center in his hometown of London, Ontario. He runs it with fellow fighters Chris Horodecki and Mark Hominick.
