Material facts for kids

Material is what everything around us is made of. Think about your desk, your clothes, or even the air you breathe – they are all made of different materials! We use materials to create almost everything. Sometimes, we also call materials "physical substances."

Raw materials are natural things found in the world, like ores (which are rocks containing metal) or Cotton. We can clean and process these raw materials, sometimes mixing them with other things, to make new materials. For example, we turn iron ore into Steel, and Cotton becomes textiles (fabrics) that we use to make clothes.
