Meltingen is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Thierstein district of Switzerland. It's part of the Solothurn canton, which is like a state or region in Switzerland.

History of Meltingen

Meltingen was first written about in the year 1302. Back then, it was already known by the name Meltingen.

Geography and Landscape

Meltingen covers an area of about 5.75 square kilometers (2.22 square miles). A large part of this land, about 40%, is used for farming. Over half of the area, about 54%, is covered by forests. The remaining 5.7% of the land has buildings or roads.

Most of the built-up area includes homes and other buildings. A smaller part is used for roads and transportation. In the forests, much of the land is heavily wooded. Some areas also have orchards or small groups of trees.

The farming land is used for growing crops and for pastures where animals graze. Some parts are also used for orchards or vineyards. Meltingen is located in the Thierstein district, along the upper part of the Ibach river. The municipality includes the main village of Meltingen and a settled church hill.

The coat of arms for Meltingen shows a special picture. It has a golden background. In the middle, there is a picture of the Madonna, who is standing. She is wearing a blue dress and has a golden crown and a golden halo around her head. She is holding the Child, who is dressed in silver with a golden halo.
