The town was named after Ephraim Albertson. He owned a popular tavern in the area in the early 1800s.
In 2014, there was a plan to combine many towns in New Jersey. This idea came from Stephen M. Sweeney, a state leader. The goal was to lower taxes and save money for the state. Mount Ephraim was one of the smaller towns in Camden County. It might have been combined with nearby towns. This could help share costs and resources.
