Muid's Journey and Work
Early Life and Education
Muid studied fine arts at the University Technology Mara (UiTM) in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. He finished his degree in 2001. After that, he worked at different web and design companies. He helped create online campaigns for big brands like Maxis, Petronas, Toyota, and Microsoft Singapore.
Supporting Creative Commons
Muid was a strong supporter of Creative Commons. This is an organization that helps people share their creative works legally. He was a board member for Creative Commons Malaysia until 2008. In 2011, he became the Project Lead. His job was to promote the free culture movement and help translate the latest Creative Commons licenses into Malay.
Digital Malaya Project
In 2001, Muid started the Digital Malaya Project (DMP). This was a group of artists who supported Malaysia's creative multimedia industry. DMP took part in art exhibitions in many countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, Jakarta, Bangkok, Japan, and Germany. They also worked on pro-bono (free) projects for groups like the Malaysian AIDS Council and Yahoo! Flickr Malaysia.
DMP helped the Malaysian art and design scene for almost ten years. They even supported the Adobe Design Achievement Awards in 2008. The Digital Malaya Project was recognized as a 'Best Selection' in Germany's WebCuts 2006. It was also a finalist for the MSC Malaysia APICTA 2002 Best Student Project Awards.
Judging and Mentoring
Muid was an ambassador for Kuala Lumpur Design Week (KLDW) in 2009 and 2010. He also worked with other designers from Southeast Asia. He was a judge for the 6th and 8th Philippines Web Awards. He also judged the MSC Malaysia Kre8tif! Industry Awards for Digital Art in 2009 and 2010. Muid was certified twice by the Ministry of Human Resources (Malaysia) for helping to create the curriculum for 3D animation in Malaysia.
New Media and Art
As an ASEF (Asia-Europe Foundation) alumnus, Muid shared his ideas on Malaysia's new media practices. He spoke at events in Singapore and at the National Art Gallery in Kuala Lumpur.
In October 2010, Muid made history in Malaysia. He was the first digital artist to perform a live digital art show. He used Adobe Photoshop while the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra played music at the KLCC Art Festival.
Projects for Unity and Animation
Muid was part of 'Malaysian Artist for Unity'. This project aimed to encourage people to work together and embrace unity, without prejudice or discrimination. He also helped with 'Here in My Home', a project produced by Pete Teo and directed by Yasmin Ahmad.
Muid contributed to the Malaysian Book of Records as an illustrator for the Longest Comic Banner in Asia in March 2008. He was also a creative consultant for Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC). He worked on Malaysia's first 3D animated series, Saladin, The Animated Series, which was nominated for an International Emmy Award in 2011.
Muid worked as an independent specialist in new media. He gave talks at art and design schools, volunteered for charities, and handled many creative projects. These included creative writing, web designs, and multimedia development. He worked on projects like Puteri Gunung Ledang: The Musical Season 3 and created cover art for recording artists.
He was also a member of the Graphic Design Association of Malaysia (wREGA). This is the only official graphic design association in Malaysia. From 2011 onwards, Muid created many space art pieces. These were shown in major art galleries like Petronas Gallery and Penang State Art Gallery.
Muid's Artistic Impact
Muid was considered one of the Third generation of Digital Artist in Malaysia. He was in a group with other successful digital artists like Aadi Salman (who worked on the graphic novel 'Silent Hill') and Milx (who worked with Marvel Comics on Silver Surfer).
Some of Muid's digital artworks, like 'Lovely Disturbia', are part of the permanent collection at the Penang State Art Gallery since 2012. His art is also in the Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery Collection from 2015 and 2016.
