The Mulan franchise from Disney started in 1998. It began with the animated movie Mulan. This franchise is based on the ancient Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, a brave young woman who secretly takes her father's place in the army.

Mulan (1998)
The first Mulan movie came out in 1998. It is an animated musical film made by Walt Disney Animation Studios. This movie tells the story of Hua Mulan, a legendary Chinese hero. It was the 36th Disney animated film and was released during a time known as the Disney Renaissance.
Mulan II (2004)
Mulan II is a Disney animated movie released in 2004. It was a direct-to-video film, meaning it went straight to DVD and VHS instead of playing in movie theaters. This movie is a sequel to the first Mulan film from 1998.
Live-Action Mulan (2020)
Walt Disney Pictures created a live-action version of Mulan. This means real actors played the characters instead of animated drawings. Niki Caro directed the film.
The main role of Mulan was played by Liu Yifei. Other famous actors joined the cast, including Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Mulan's mentor. Gong Li played a powerful witch named Xian Lang, and Jason Scott Lee played Bori Khan, a warrior seeking revenge.
The movie was first planned for release in March 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, its release was delayed. It eventually premiered on Disney+ for a special fee in the United States in September 2020. In some countries where movie theaters were open, it was released in cinemas.
Mulan on TV
Mulan never had its own TV show. However, the main character, Mulan, and other characters have appeared in other Disney shows. These include Disney's House of Mouse, Once Upon a Time, and Sofia the First.
Mulan Audiobooks
- In 1999, an audiobook of Mulan was released. It came with a cassette tape and a book you could read along with.
- In 2004, Mulan became part of Disney's Storyteller Series. This was an hour-long audiobook read by Roy Dotrice.

Kingdom Hearts Series
The character Mushu appears in the first Kingdom Hearts game and in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. He can be summoned to help you in battles. In Kingdom Hearts II, there's a whole world based on the Mulan movie called "The Land of Dragons." Mulan herself can even join your team in this game!
Disney Infinity
Disney Infinity was a series of action-adventure video games where you could play with real-life toy figures. The Mulan franchise was featured in the series. In the last game, Disney Infinity 3.0, Mulan was released as a playable character. Her toy figure came out on August 30, 2015.

The Mulan Parade started at Disney's Hollywood Studios on June 19, 1998. This was the same day the movie was released. The parade featured over 53 performers and included characters like Mushu, Shang, Mulan, and the Emperor. It also had pagodas, warriors, and kung-fu performers. The parade ran until March 11, 2001.
