Nacer Chadli (born August 2, 1989) is a professional footballer from Belgium. He plays as a winger for the club Standard de Liège 16 in the Belgian Division 1.
Chadli started his football journey in the Eerste Divisie, a Dutch league, with AGOVV Apeldoorn. In 2010, he moved to FC Twente, a top-tier club, where he helped them win the KNVB Cup in his first season. Later, in 2013, he joined Tottenham Hotspur in England. Three years after that, he signed with West Bromwich Albion for a club-record fee of £13 million.
Nacer Chadli first played internationally for Morocco in 2010 because his father is from Morocco. However, he decided to play for Belgium the next year. He has played over sixty games for Belgium and represented his country in the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and 2018. He also played in the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament.

Club Career Highlights
Starting Out at Apeldoorn
Nacer Chadli played youth football at several clubs, including JS Thier-à-Liège, Standard Liège, and MVV Maastricht. In the summer of 2007, he joined AGOVV Apeldoorn, a Dutch second division club. They found him at MVV's youth academy and saw him as a rising star. Chadli scored his first professional goal for AGOVV in a match against FC Volendam.
Success with Twente

In 2010, Chadli signed with FC Twente, who were the champions of the Eredivisie at the time. He quickly became an important player for the team. His first goal in the Eredivisie was the winning goal against PSV.
He made his first appearance in a European competition, the Champions League, on September 14, 2010. This was in a 2–2 draw at home against Internazionale. On September 29, he scored his first Champions League goal against Tottenham Hotspur. He scored again in the Champions League against Werder Bremen and later against Tottenham from a free-kick.
Playing for Tottenham Hotspur

On July 21, 2013, Tottenham Hotspur agreed to sign Chadli from Twente for about £7 million. He officially joined Tottenham on July 26 and made his debut in a friendly match on August 3. His first Premier League game was on August 18, 2013, in a 1–0 win against Crystal Palace. He scored his first Premier League goal on February 12, 2014, in a 4–0 win against Newcastle United.
In the 2014–15 season, Chadli started strong, scoring two goals against Queens Park Rangers. He continued to score important goals, including one against Tottenham's rivals, Arsenal. He ended that season with 11 Premier League goals.
Time at West Bromwich Albion
On August 29, 2016, West Bromwich Albion signed Chadli from Tottenham for a club-record fee of £13 million. He made his debut in a 1–0 loss to Bournemouth. In his second league game, which was his home debut, Chadli scored twice and provided two assists in a 4–2 win over West Ham United.
During the 2017–18 season, Chadli faced problems with recurring thigh injuries. He played only a few games for West Bromwich Albion, and the team was eventually relegated from the Premier League. He scored one goal that season, a free kick in a 1–1 draw against Leicester City.
Move to Monaco
On August 30, 2018, Monaco signed Chadli on a three-year deal, paying over €12 million to West Bromwich Albion. At Monaco, he joined his Belgian national team teammate, Youri Tielemans. Chadli played in the Champions League with Monaco. However, the team struggled in Ligue 1, the French league, fighting to avoid relegation for most of the season. Chadli did not score any goals or make any assists during his time at Monaco.
Loan to Anderlecht
On August 11, 2019, Chadli joined Anderlecht in Belgium on a loan deal from Monaco. Player-manager Vincent Kompany helped convince Chadli to return to the Belgian First Division A. Chadli was one of several experienced Belgian players who returned to play in Belgium that season.
He made his debut for Anderlecht on August 17, 2019, in a 4–2 loss to Kortrijk. This game also marked his first appearance in the top Belgian league since he was 17. Despite some injury issues, Chadli was a key player for Anderlecht that season. He scored eight goals and provided five assists in 17 league games. However, Anderlecht could not afford to sign him permanently when his loan ended.
Playing in Turkey with İstanbul Başakşehir
On September 10, 2020, Chadli moved to the Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir. He signed a two-year contract and was given the number 11 jersey. Başakşehir were the champions of the Süper Lig at the time, which meant they had qualified for the Champions League group stage. Chadli joined former Premier League players like Martin Škrtel and Demba Ba at the club.
Chadli made his first appearance for Başakşehir on November 8, after being injured for the first two months. He came on as a substitute and helped his team turn a 0–1 deficit into a 2–1 victory by providing two assists.
Return to Westerlo
On September 6, 2022, Chadli joined Belgian Pro League club Westerlo on a loan for the season. He returned to Westerlo permanently on August 18, 2023, signing a one-season contract.
International Career
Nacer Chadli has citizenship in both Belgium and Morocco, so he could choose to play for either country. He first played for Morocco on November 17, 2010, in a friendly match against Northern Ireland. He was even named the best player of that match.
However, on January 28, 2011, he announced that he wanted to play for Belgium. This was allowed because he had not yet played in a competitive match for Morocco. He made his debut for Belgium in a friendly game against Finland on February 9.
Chadli has played as a striker for the Belgian national team. He scored his first international goal in a UEFA Euro 2012 qualifier against Azerbaijan on March 29, 2011.
On May 13, 2014, Chadli was chosen for Belgium's team for the 2014 World Cup. He played in the team's first game against Algeria. In May 2018, he was again named to Belgium's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
A memorable moment came on July 2, 2018, during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Chadli came off the bench and scored the winning goal in injury time, leading Belgium to a thrilling 3–2 victory over Japan in the round of 16. This goal was even chosen by the BBC as the goal of the tournament.
How Nacer Chadli Plays
Nacer Chadli is a very flexible midfielder. He can play as an attacking midfielder, in a "number 10" role (which means he helps create goals), or as a winger on either side of the field. He is good with both feet and has a powerful shot.
