Early Life and High School Football
Neville Gallimore's parents were born in Jamaica. He grew up in Canada and first went to St. Patrick's High School in Ottawa. There, he started playing football as a defensive tackle.
To get more chances to play against top teams, Neville moved to the Canada Prep Academy in Welland, Ontario. This school helped him travel across the United States to compete.
In 2015, Neville made history. He was the first Canadian-born player ever invited to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. This is a big game for the best high school football players. Unfortunately, he couldn't play because of a knee injury. After getting about 30 scholarship offers from different U.S. colleges, Neville decided to play for the University of Oklahoma.
College Football Career
Neville started his college journey at Oklahoma in 2015. He took a "redshirt" year, which means he practiced with the team but didn't play in games. This allowed him to gain experience without using up a year of his playing eligibility.
Freshman and Sophomore Years
In 2016, as a freshman, Neville played in all 13 games. He started six of those games. He made 40 tackles and had one sack. A tackle for loss (TfL) means stopping an opponent behind their starting line.
As a sophomore in 2017, he played in 12 games. He started the first five games but missed two due to an injury. He recorded 28 tackles and one sack. His best game that year was against Tulane University, where he made 9 tackles.
Junior and Senior Years
In 2018, Neville was a junior and started 13 games. He had a great season with 50 tackles, 3 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. A forced fumble is when a player hits the ball carrier, causing them to drop the ball. He made 5 tackles in the Big 12 Championship game, which Oklahoma won.
His senior year in 2019 was also strong. He started 14 games and recorded 30 tackles and 4 sacks. He also forced 2 fumbles. Neville finished his college career with 148 total tackles and 9 sacks. He also helped his team reach the College Football Playoff three times.
Professional Football Career
Dallas Cowboys (2020–2023)
The Dallas Cowboys picked Neville Gallimore in the third round of the 2020 NFL draft. This was the 82nd pick overall. He was also chosen by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League (CFL) draft, but he chose to play in the NFL.
Neville started his NFL career in 2020. He got his first NFL tackle in a game against the New York Giants. He became a starter at defensive tackle after some teammates got injured. One of his best games was against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He helped limit their running game to only 46 yards. In his first season, he played in 14 games and started 9 of them. He had 26 tackles and half a sack.
In 2021, Neville faced a challenge. He dislocated his right elbow during a preseason game. This injury kept him out for most of the season. He missed the first 12 games and returned in December. He started 4 out of 5 games he played, making 10 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He later shared that the injury was tough on him mentally too.
In 2022, he played in 16 games but started only one. He recorded 33 tackles and one sack. In 2023, the Cowboys drafted another defensive tackle, which meant Neville had less playing time. He still played in all 17 games as a backup, getting 15 tackles and one sack.
Miami Dolphins (2024)
In March 2024, Neville signed with the Miami Dolphins. However, he was released by the team in August of the same year.
