History of Onnens
Onnens was first mentioned in official records way back in 1228. Back then, it was known as Unens.
Geography and Landscape
Onnens covers an area of about 5.11 square kilometers (about 2 square miles). A large part of this land is used for farming, which is about 41.7% of the area. Nearly half of the municipality, 49.3%, is covered by forests. The rest of the land, about 9.4%, has buildings and roads.
Most of the forested land is thick forest, and a small part has orchards or groups of trees. For farming, people mostly grow crops, have pastures for animals, or grow fruit and grapevines.
Onnens used to be part of the Grandson District. But on August 31, 2006, that district was closed, and Onnens became part of the newer Jura-Nord Vaudois district.
There are plans for Onnens to possibly join with nearby towns like Concise, Corcelles-près-Concise, and Mutrux to form a new, larger municipality in the future.
