The Big Summer Adventure Begins
Phineas and Ferb are bored because they've already done so many cool things this summer. To find a new thrill, they decide to travel around the world! Their goal is to move at the same speed as the Earth spins. This way, they hope to make one super long, 24-hour summer day. They call it the "biggest, longest, funnest summer day of all time."
Doofenshmirtz's Tokyo Trouble
Meanwhile, Dr. Doofenshmirtz takes his daughter, Vanessa, on a trip to Tokyo. Vanessa is excited at first, but then she gets upset. She finds out her dad has captured Major Monogram. Doofenshmirtz plans to ruin the International Good Guy Convention. He wants to use a giant water balloon and blame Monogram for it. Vanessa feels her dad always puts his evil plans before her. She decides to leave for Paris by herself.
At the same time, Perry the Platypus (Agent P) learns about Monogram. Carl warns him about a suspicious note sent to the O.W.C.A. (Organization Without a Cool Acronym). Perry quickly heads to Tokyo to help.
Unexpected Help in Tokyo
In Tokyo, Phineas and his friends meet Stacy's cousins. They need vegetable oil for fuel for their plane. While they are there, Vanessa accidentally gets knocked off the Tokyo Tower. This happens because Perry (as Agent P) tries to stop Doofenshmirtz's giant balloon.
Doofenshmirtz sees Vanessa in danger. He forgets his evil plan and decides to rescue her. Perry and Major Monogram also help him. They all travel together in Agent P's cool platypus-shaped hovercar.
Bouncing Through the Himalayas
The group, now including Vanessa, crashes in the Himalayas, in India. Their plane loses its wings. Phineas and the kids visit Baljeet's uncle, Sabu. He runs a factory that makes rubber bands and rubber balls. Uncle Sabu sings a song called "Rubber Bands" as he shows them around.
This gives the kids a great idea! They decide to attach a giant bouncy rubber ball to the bottom of their plane. This new setup lets them bounce their way to Paris and then back home. As they travel, you hear the fun song "Bouncin' Around The World."
Paris, City of Love and Feelings
In Paris, which Isabella calls "the city of love," Candace sees Jeremy with other kids. She gets upset and leaves. Isabella is also sad because Phineas doesn't notice her feelings for him. He's only focused on fixing their plane.
On top of the Eiffel Tower, Ferb talks to a sad Vanessa. He tells her to try and meet her father halfway in their relationship. He suggests she try to socialize more with him. A moment later, Doofenshmirtz, Perry, and Major Monogram arrive to rescue Vanessa. Vanessa is annoyed that her dad brought "work" again. But Doof complains about all the trouble he went through. He explains how Perry and Monogram helped him travel halfway around the world just for her.
The Final Stretch Home
Later, the group crashes on a deserted island. It only has two palm trees and an ox. Their plane falls apart, leaving only the seats. Meanwhile, in Paris, Major Monogram and Perry arrest Doof. Vanessa stops them and leaves with her father in Perry's hovercraft. This leaves Perry upset, as Monogram leaves him behind.
Back on the island, Phineas tries desperately to find a way home. He even finds a sponge and a starfish under the sand. Finally, he gives up and sits to watch the sunset with Isabella, just like she wanted. But Isabella encourages him. Phineas then gets an idea: they can use Ferb's giant map as a huge paper airplane!
With only one minute left, Buford gives everyone their bikes back. The group jumps over a pit using a makeshift ramp. They arrive home with just a second to spare! Their parents also arrive home. For once, Candace doesn't tell on them because she had so much fun. Everyone sings "Summer Belongs to You." Jeremy comes home early and kisses Candace, calling her his girlfriend. She is very excited!
After the celebration, Phineas wonders where Perry is. The episode ends with Perry at a fancy restaurant in Paris, trying to cheer himself up.
How the Special Was Made
The co-director, Robert F. Hughes, said this special was first planned as a full movie. But because of some story issues, it became an hour-long TV special instead. The movie idea later turned into Across the 2nd Dimension.
