Round Hill is a small town in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. In 2020, about 693 people lived there. The town is located where two roads, Virginia Routes 7 and 719 (Woodgrove Road), meet. It is about 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Washington, D.C.. The town's name comes from a hill located two miles northeast. This hill was used as a signal post during the American Civil War by both Confederate and Union soldiers.

History of Round Hill
Round Hill became an official town on February 5, 1900. Before that, from 1874 to 1900, it was the end point of a train line. This line later became the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad. The railway helped farmers bring their crops to Washington, D.C. It also allowed people from the city to visit the countryside for vacations.
Many old buildings in Round Hill were once places where visitors could stay. These included boarding houses, inns, and taverns. The town was a popular spot because it is close to many natural attractions. These include the Shenandoah River, Shenandoah National Park, and the Appalachian Trail. It is also near Harpers Ferry and the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historic Park.
Recently, new neighborhoods have grown around Round Hill. These suburbs of Washington, D.C., have brought many new residents close to the town. Round Hill's water and sewer systems help serve these new areas.
Every year on Memorial Day, the town holds a "Hometown Festival." This event includes a parade and other fun activities. These activities take place in the town park and other locations.
In 2019, Round Hill was named an Appalachian Trail Community. This means it's a friendly place for hikers on the famous Appalachian Trail. To celebrate this, an Appalachian Trail Festival has been held every summer.
Some important historical places in Round Hill are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the Ketoctin Baptist Church, the Round Hill Historic District, and Woodgrove.
Geography and Location
Round Hill is located in the western part of Loudoun County. Its exact coordinates are 39°8′1″N 77°46′13″W. It is about 12 miles (19 km) west of Leesburg, which is the main town of Loudoun County. It is also 24 miles (39 km) east of Winchester.
The town covers an area of about 1.0 square kilometer (0.37 square miles). Most of this area is land, with a small amount of water. Round Hill sits at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Water from the town flows into the North Fork of Goose Creek. This creek then flows east to the Potomac River.

In 2010, there were 539 people living in Round Hill. These people lived in 202 households, with 155 of them being families. The town had about 2,695 people per square mile (1040.5/km2).
About 40.6% of households had children under 18 living with them. Most households (59.9%) were married couples living together. The average household had 2.67 people, and the average family had 3.06 people.
The age of the population in 2010 was spread out. About 30.7% were under 20 years old. People aged 45 to 64 made up 34.0% of the population. About 9.7% of residents were 65 years or older. The average age in the town was 40.5 years.
Transportation in Round Hill
The main road that serves Round Hill is Virginia State Route 7. This road goes east to Leesburg and continues to Alexandria. It connects with major highways like Interstate 495 and Interstate 66. To the west, Route 7 passes Berryville and ends in Winchester. There, it connects with Interstate 81.
The current Route 7 goes around the center of Round Hill. The original road through the town is now called SR 7 Business.
Education and Community Services
There are no public schools directly inside the town limits of Round Hill. However, Round Hill Elementary School is located just outside, in the Villages of Round Hill neighborhood. In January 2013, this school had 544 students. Older students attend schools in the Loudoun County Public School system. This includes Woodgrove High School in Purcellville.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement for the town. Fire protection and emergency medical help come from the Round Hill Volunteer Fire Department. This department is made up of volunteers, with extra staff from the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System available all the time.
The town also manages its own water and sewer system. New construction projects have helped improve these systems in recent years.
Local News
Several newspapers are available in Round Hill. These include the Washington Post, Washington Times, and Winchester Star. The Loudoun Times-Mirror is a free weekly newspaper from Leesburg. Residents also get free weekly shopper papers like Blue Ridge Leader and Purcellville Gazette. These papers mostly contain advertisements.
Churches in Round Hill
There are four churches located within the town of Round Hill. These are Round Hill Baptist Church, Round Hill United Methodist Church, Mount Zion Baptist Church, and Western Loudoun Community Church. (Western Loudoun Community Church moved to Hillsboro in 2018).
The Ketoctin Baptist Church, also known as the Short Hill Church, is about two miles north of Route 7. Its cemetery dates back to 1777. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Round Hill attend services in Hamilton. Catholic residents can go to St. Francis DeSales church.
