Sanford is a small town located in Broome County, New York, in the United States. In 2010, about 2,407 people lived there.
The town is found on the eastern edge of Broome County. It is also on the southern border of New York State. Sanford is located to the east of the city of Binghamton.

History of Sanford
The land in this area was first owned by a few different groups. These included the Livingstone patent, the Fisher and Norton tract, and the Randolph patent. People first started settling here around 1787.
The town of Sanford was officially created in 1821. It was formed from parts of the nearby town of Windsor.
Geography and Location
Sanford covers a total area of about 235.7 square kilometers (91.0 square miles). Most of this area, about 233.4 square kilometers (90.1 square miles), is land. The rest, about 2.4 square kilometers (0.92 square miles), is water.
The eastern border of Sanford touches Delaware County. To the north, the town shares a border with Chenango County. The southern border of Sanford is also the border of Pennsylvania. Here, it touches Wayne and Susquehanna counties in Pennsylvania.
Roads and Rivers
New York Route 17 is a major road that goes through the town. New York State Route 41 meets NY-17 just west of McClure. The part of NY-17 near Deposit was one of the last sections to be finished in this area. This meant travelers had to exit at Deposit for a long time.
The West Branch of the Delaware River forms part of the eastern border of the town. This river is an important natural feature.

- Deposit – This village is partly in Broome County and partly in Delaware County. You can get to it from exits 83 and 84 on NY Route 17.
- Gulf Summit – A hamlet in the southwestern part of the town, south of NY-17.
- Howes – A hamlet near the western town line. It is in the northern part of the town on NY-41.
- McClure – A hamlet in the southern part of the town. You can reach it from Exit 82 on NY-17. It used to be called "McClure Settlement."
- North Sanford – A hamlet near the northern and eastern town lines, located on County Road 241.
- Oquaga Creek – A stream that flows through most of the town. It eventually flows into the West Branch of the Delaware River near Deposit.
- Oquaga Lake – A small lake in the southeastern part of the town. County Road 237 runs along its border.
- Oquaga Creek State Park – A state park located in the northeastern corner of the town. It's a great place for outdoor activities.
- Page Pond Hill – A mountain located north-northwest of Sanford.
- Sanford – This is the main hamlet of Sanford. It is located on NY Route 41 near the center of the town.
- Vallonia Springs – A hamlet located right at the western town line.
