Second Rutte cabinet facts for kids

The Second Rutte cabinet was a group of leaders who governed the Netherlands. It was also known as Rutte II. This government was in charge from November 5, 2012, until October 26, 2017.
What Was the Rutte II Cabinet?
A cabinet is like a country's main team of leaders. They work together to make important decisions. The Rutte II cabinet was made up of two political parties:
- The People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD)
- The Labour Party (PvdA)
The main leader of this team was Mark Rutte from the VVD party. He was the Prime Minister. The second-in-command was Lodewijk Asscher from the PvdA party. He was the Deputy Prime Minister.
How Long Did It Govern?
The Second Rutte cabinet governed for almost five years. This was a full term, which means they stayed in power for the expected amount of time.
Even though they faced challenges, they managed to keep leading the country. For example, they lost their majority of votes in the Second Chamber in 2016. This meant they had fewer votes than other parties combined. They also didn't have a majority in the First Chamber. Despite this, they finished their full period of government.
The First Rutte cabinet was the government before this one. After the Second Rutte cabinet, the Third Rutte cabinet took over.
