Shinzō Abe (born 21 September 1954) is the Prime Minister of Japan. He was first made the 90th Prime Minister of Japan following Junichiro Koizumi in 2006. However, he stepped down on 12 September 2007 after a year. The stated reason to end his term was missing support for Japan's mission in Afghanistan. However, he had also been involved in a number of crises over the last few months. In 2012 he was once again made party leader and his party went on to win the election in December 2012 by a wide margin. This brought him back to power as Prime Minister. In 2019, he became the longest serving Prime Minister in Japan.

He was born in Shinjuku, Tokyo, but his Constituency is in Yamaguchi Prefecture. It was inherited from his father Shintarō Abe.
