Blake Anthony Carter (born August 21, 1984), known as Shy Carter, is an American songwriter, music producer, rapper, and singer. He has written many popular songs for famous artists. Some of these artists include Meghan Trainor, Jason Derulo, Charlie Puth, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and Keith Urban.

Shy Carter helped write Charlie Puth's huge hit song "One Call Away". This song sold over two million copies and reached number one on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart. He also co-wrote "Someday" with Rob Thomas, which was a number one hit for over 40 weeks. Another big song he helped create is "Stuck Like Glue" with Sugarland. This song was one of the most downloaded country songs ever. Shy Carter has also worked with Latin artist Gloria Trevi on her number one song "Habla Blah Blah".

How Shy Carter Started

Shy Carter grew up near Atlanta before moving to Memphis, Tennessee. He played the saxophone in church and with bands on Beale Street. In 2007, a talent manager named Courtney Benson discovered him. Carter then signed a music production deal with Nelly, a famous rapper. A year later, he signed a deal to publish his songs with Primary Wave Entertainment.

Early Success: 2009-2014

In September 2009, Rob Thomas released "Someday", a song he wrote with Shy Carter. It became Rob Thomas's third number one hit on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart. A few years later, Shy Carter co-wrote "Stuck Like Glue" with Kevin Griffin, Jennifer Nettles, and Kristian Bush of Sugarland. This song came out in July 2010 and sold almost three million copies. It became one of the most downloaded country songs of all time.

In 2011, he helped write and produce "Shorty Is A Weirdo" with Ray J. In 2012, he co-wrote and produced "Let's Run Away" for Haley Reinhart's album Listen Up!. He also worked on "Don't Keep in Touch" for Marcus Canty's EP. In 2013, Shy Carter helped with two songs on Billy Currington's album We Are Tonight. He co-wrote, produced, and sang background on "Hallelujah" and rapped on "Banana Pancakes". He also appeared on Gloria Trevi's album De Pelicula, rapping on "Habla Blah Blah", which hit number one on the Adult Pop Songs chart. Shy Carter was also featured on "Mr. Almost" from Meghan Trainor's album Title.

Recent Achievements: 2015-Present

In 2015, Shy Carter released his own song "Bring It Back" through RCA Records. It was first played on Sirius XM Hits 1 radio and later made it to the Top 40 on the Billboard Rhythmic charts. Shy also wrote Jamie Foxx's song "Baby's In Love" featuring Kid Ink. He appeared on DJ Quik and Problem's Rosecrans EP on the track "A New Nite".

Shy Carter was also featured on Charlie Puth's song "As You Are" from the album Nine Track Mind. He also co-wrote Charlie Puth's very popular song "One Call Away". In 2016, he co-wrote Billy Currington's number one hit "It Don't Hurt Like It Used To". Shy also co-wrote "Speak to a Girl" for Faith Hill and Tim McGraw's duet album, and Tim McGraw's song "Way Down". He also helped write Kane Brown's popular songs "Heaven" and "Good As You". Shy Carter is featured on two songs on Keith Urban's album Graffiti U and wrote Keith Urban's song "God Whispered Your Name" in 2020.
