About the Show's Story
Spliced is a modern and silly version of an old science-fiction book called The Island of Doctor Moreau by H. G. Wells. In the original book, a mad scientist creates animal-human creatures. In Spliced, the weird animals are made from genetic experiments. This means their DNA was changed in a lab.
These experimental animals, plus one platypus, live on a faraway tropical place called "Keep Away Island." The scientist who made them was arrested and taken away. So, the mutated animals are left alone to create their own society. They try to live together and often get into all sorts of funny trouble!
Meet the Characters
Main Characters
- Peri (short for "failed exPERIment number 13") is a mix of a fox and an octopus. He lives in a plane that crashed on the island. Peri is really good at bowling. He and his best friend, Entrée, invented their own game called "bucket-stick-fruit-ball." Rob Stefaniuk does Peri's voice.
- Entrée (named after the main course of a meal) is Peri's best friend. He was created to be the perfect food animal. He has a cow's udders, a pig's body, chicken wings and a comb, and a shrimp tail. He "walks" on his udders! Entrée is often selfish and only thinks about what he wants right now. He loves to eat anything, especially mayonnaise. Joe Pingue is the voice of Entrée.
- Two-legs Joe is a rhinoceros with only two legs. A mostly quiet bird named Lord Wingus Eternum grows out of his back! Joe is the mayor of the town where the mutants live. He gets very frustrated because Peri and Entrée often accidentally wreck the town. Joe loves to stomp, especially when he's mad at Peri and Entrée for causing chaos. It turns out that Two-legs Joe is actually a growth on Wingus's leg! Pat McKenna voices Two-legs Joe, and Tom McCamus voices Wingus.
- Patricia is a female platypus. She was already living on Keep Away Island when the scientist set up his lab. She feels a bit lonely because she's the only animal who wasn't "spliced" or changed. Patricia is a writer and has written poetry and a novel. She is also a master of a martial art called "Plat Kwon Do." Katie Crown voices Patricia.
- Princess Pony Apehands has the head and tail of a pony and the body of an ape. She is very strong but has the mind of a young girl. She sometimes hurts others by accident when she's just trying to play or give a hug. She also gets angry quickly and will intentionally hurt anyone who makes her mad. Her tree house is pink inside, and she loves girly things, even though her voice is deep. Kedar Brown voices Princess Pony Apehands.
- Compuhorse is a horse with a computer inside him. He doesn't move much and speaks with a computer voice, like Stephen Hawking. His best friend is Calcupony. Pat McKenna voices Compuhorse.
- Fuzzy Snuggums is a small explorer who always tries to find adventure beyond the island but never succeeds. He often starts talking by saying "Expedition note..." The scientist made Fuzzy indestructible, which is good because his adventures usually end with him getting hurt! Even though he's usually small and cute, Fuzzy can turn into a giant, strong fighter when things get serious. Julie Lemieux voices Fuzzy.
- Mister Smarty Smarts is a mix of a dolphin, a chimpanzee, and a Jack Russell Terrier. He has a very smart primate brain. He is the main bad guy of the show and always tries to take over the island. He lives in a secret lair on the side of the volcano. He thinks he's much smarter than everyone else. Mike Kiss voices Mister Smarty Smarts.
- Octocat is a combination of a cat and an octopus. She is Mister Smarty Smarts' helper. She can't talk and only meows, but everyone understands her. Like Fuzzy, she was also created to be a super-soldier and can turn into a strong fighting form.
