Stephen Warnock's Club Career
Playing for Liverpool
Stephen Warnock was born in Ormskirk, England. As a child, he played for local teams like Rufford Colts. He also played for St Bede's RC High School. Stephen joined the Liverpool youth academy. He also played for England's youth teams, getting his first international cap for the under-16s.
Before playing for Liverpool's main team, he went on loan to other clubs. He played for Bradford City, where he scored his first goal against Sheffield Wednesday. He also had a loan spell at Coventry City.
Warnock made his first appearance for Liverpool's senior team on 10 August 2004. This was in a Champions League qualifying match against Grazer AK. In May 2005, he almost made it into the squad for the 2005 UEFA Champions League final. However, he was later removed from the list.
In his second season, 2005–06, he often played as a left-back. He shared this role with John Arne Riise. Warnock scored his only goal for Liverpool on 15 March 2006. It was in a big 5–1 win against Fulham.
Time at Blackburn Rovers
On 22 January 2007, Warnock moved to Blackburn Rovers. He joined for about £1.5 million. He played his first game for Blackburn in the FA Cup. It was a 4–0 win against Luton Town.
His first Premier League match for Rovers was on 31 January 2007 against Chelsea. On 3 February 2007, he was sent off in a 2–1 win against Sheffield United. Warnock scored his first goal for Blackburn on 25 February 2007. This was in a 3–0 victory over Portsmouth.
On 11 April 2009, before a match against his old club Liverpool, Stephen showed a special tribute. He presented a flower display with the number '96' on it. This was to remember the 96 Liverpool fans who died in the Hillsborough disaster. The fans at the famous Spion Kop cheered his name.
Playing for Aston Villa

On 26 August 2009, Stephen Warnock signed a four-year contract with Aston Villa. He scored his first goal for Villa on 20 January 2010. It was in a League Cup semi-final against his former club Blackburn Rovers. Aston Villa won that exciting game 6–4.
Later, in December 2010, Warnock played less for Aston Villa. He even played with the reserve team for a while. However, a new manager, Alex McLeish, was impressed with his great attitude. Stephen then got his place back in the team. On 15 October 2011, Warnock scored his first league goal for Villa against Manchester City. He played in 34 games for Villa during the 2011–12 season. In the 2012–13 season, he found it harder to get playing time.
Loan to Bolton Wanderers
On 21 September 2012, Warnock joined Bolton Wanderers on a three-month loan. He made his debut in a 1–0 loss against Crystal Palace. He played 15 games for Bolton before going back to Aston Villa.
Time at Leeds United
On 31 January 2013, Stephen Warnock signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Leeds United. He played his first game for Leeds on 9 February 2013. This was a 2–2 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Warnock scored his first goal for Leeds from a penalty kick on 2 March 2013. It was the only goal in a 1–0 win against Millwall. He was also named captain in Brian McDermott's first match as manager. In February 2014, he scored a unique goal against Yeovil Town. A strong wind caught his free kick, and it flew over the goalkeeper's head, giving Leeds a 2–1 win.
Warnock scored the only goal in a 1–0 win against his old club Bolton on 30 August. During the 2014–15 season, he became the new Leeds captain. He got an injury in December 2014, and Charlie Taylor took his place at left-back.
Moving to Derby County
On 15 January 2015, Warnock joined Derby County.
Playing for Wigan Athletic
Warnock signed a one-year contract with Wigan Athletic on 30 May 2016.
Time at Burton Albion

Bradford City and Retirement
On 26 January 2018, Warnock went back to Bradford City on loan. In April 2018, he announced that he would stop playing football at the end of that season.
International Career
Warnock played for the England schools team. He also made one appearance for the under-16s against Norway in April 1998.
Even though he had not played many games for Liverpool, Stephen was called up to the senior England squad in August 2005. This was because England needed more players at left-back. He was called up again in May 2008 for friendly matches. He made his England debut on 1 June against Trinidad and Tobago. He came on as a substitute in the 84th minute.
After playing well for Aston Villa in 2009–10, Warnock was called up to the England squad again. This was for a friendly match against Egypt. On 11 May 2010, he was named in the 30-man team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. On 1 June 2010, he was chosen for the final 23-man squad. However, he did not play in any of England's World Cup matches. This was because Ashley Cole was the main left-back. Warnock played his second and final game for England against France in November 2010.
In May 2012, the manager of the Scotland team asked Warnock if he would like to play for Scotland. Warnock could have played for Scotland because his England games were only friendly matches.
Life After Football
Since he stopped playing football, Stephen Warnock has become a regular football expert. He appears on radio and television. He talks about games in the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, and other leagues. He works for channels like the BBC, BT Sport, and NBC Sports.
