Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi (Arabic: سلطان بن محمد القاسمي, romanized: Sulṭān bin Muḥammad al-Qāsimī) was born on July 2, 1939. He is a member of the Al Qasimi royal family in the United Arab Emirates. He is also a well-known politician, author, and historian.
Sheikh Sultan is currently the 11th ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah. He has been in this role since January 1972. He is also part of the Federal Supreme Council of the UAE. He is famous for his many historical books and for supporting education. He also works to protect important cultural places. For example, he helped restore the Al Hisn Fort in Sharjah in 1970. He was also the first Minister of Education for the UAE in 1971.

Early Life and Education
Sheikh Sultan's mother was Maryam bint Sheikh Ghanem Al Shamsi. She lived from 1915 to 2010. He grew up with four brothers and two sisters. Their names are Khalid, Sheikh Saqr, Abdul Aziz, Abdullah, Sheikha, and Naema.
School Days
In 1948, when he was nine years old, Sheikh Sultan started school at Eslah As Qasimia School. He completed his early education in different cities. These included Sharjah, Kuwait City, and Dubai.
University Studies
After finishing school, Sheikh Sultan went to Cairo University. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1971. He continued his studies and earned two PhDs. His first PhD was in history from the University of Exeter in 1985. His second PhD was in the political geography of the Gulf from Durham University in 1999.

Minister of Education
In December 1971, Sheikh Sultan was chosen for a very important job. He became the first Minister of Education for the United Arab Emirates. This shows his early commitment to learning and development.
Leading Universities
Sheikh Sultan has also played a big role in higher education. In 1997, he became the president of two universities. These were the American University of Sharjah and the University of Sharjah. In 1998, he became a visiting professor at the University of Exeter. This was one of his old universities. In 1999, he became a professor of modern history of the Gulf at the University of Sharjah. Later, in 2008, he also became a visiting professor at Cairo University.
Ruler of Sharjah
Sheikh Sultan became the ruler of Sharjah on January 25, 1972. He took over after his brother, Khalid bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. He has been the ruler of Sharjah continuously since then. In May 2018, he started the "Irada" center in Sharjah. This center helps people in the community with rehabilitation and support. On January 25, 2022, Sheikh Sultan celebrated a big milestone. He marked his 50th anniversary as the Ruler of Sharjah.
Writing and Creative Works
Sheikh Sultan is a very active writer. By 2023, he had written at least 82 books. These books cover many topics. They include history, literature, and plays.
In 2020, a historical film was released. It was called Khorfakkan. This movie was based on a book written by Sheikh Sultan. The book was titled Khorfakkan’s Resistance Against the Portuguese Invasion of September 1507. The film tells the story of how the city of Khorfakkan bravely resisted a Portuguese invasion in the 16th century.

Personal Life
Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi has been married twice. With his first wife, he had two children:

With his second wife, Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, he had four children:
- Bodour bint Sultan (born 1978). She is married to Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi. They have three children: Maryam, Ahmed, and Alya.

- Hoor bint Sultan (born 1980)
- Khalid bin Sultan (1980–2019). He was the owner of a British clothing brand.
