Tarjei Bø (born July 29, 1988) is a famous Norwegian biathlete. Biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. Tarjei has won many gold medals at the Olympic Games and World Championships. He also has many victories in the Biathlon World Cup.

Tarjei Bø started his World Cup career on March 26, 2009. He won his first Olympic gold medal in 2010 in a relay race. In December 2010, he got his first individual World Cup victory. He is the older brother of Johannes Thingnes Bø, who is also a very successful biathlete. Tarjei won the overall World Cup title in the 2010-2011 season. This means he earned the most points that season.

Tarjei Bø's Biathlon Journey

Starting Out: Junior Years

Tarjei Bø began his biathlon journey at a young age. At his first Junior World Championships in 2006, he won a gold medal. He also earned a silver medal in another race. The next year, in 2007, he won another silver medal. He was also part of the Norwegian relay team that won silver.

In 2009, at the Junior World Championships in Canada, Tarjei won two bronze medals. He then competed in the European Championships in Russia. There, he was very successful, winning gold medals in all four races he entered. Later that year, he made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup.

Becoming an Olympic Champion (2009–2010)

In the 2009–2010 season, Tarjei continued to improve. He performed well in smaller competitions, which helped him join the main World Cup races. He finished fourth in one race and was part of the winning Norwegian relay team in another.

In January 2010, Tarjei was chosen to go to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. He finished 21st in his first Olympic event. However, he was part of the Norwegian relay team that won the gold medal! This was a huge achievement. Later, he helped Norway win a mixed relay race at a World Cup event.

Winning the Overall World Cup (2010–2011)

The 2010–2011 season was amazing for Tarjei Bø. He became a regular member of the Norwegian team. He started the season strong with several top finishes. On December 5, 2010, he won his first individual World Cup race in Austria. He won again the next day in a pursuit race. He also helped the Norwegian relay team win.

After these wins, Tarjei took the lead in the overall World Cup standings. He continued to perform well throughout the season. He won more races in Germany and had several podium finishes in the United States.

At the 2011 World Championships, Tarjei won his first World Championship title. He was part of the Norwegian mixed relay team that won gold. He also won two bronze medals in individual races. Then, he won his first individual gold medal at the World Championships. He finished the championships with five medals, making him the most successful biathlete there.

At the end of the season, Tarjei had a close race for the overall World Cup title. He managed to win the title by just five points, making it his first time winning the overall World Cup.

Continued Success (2011–Present)

Tarjei Bø continued to be a top biathlete in the following years. He consistently placed on the podium in World Cup races. He also won more gold medals at the World Championships. For example, he won gold in the relay race in 2012 and three gold medals in 2013.

He has continued to win medals at the Olympic Games. In the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, he won two more gold medals in relay events. He also earned a silver and a bronze medal in individual races. Tarjei has shown incredible consistency and skill throughout his long career. He is still competing and winning medals as of 2025.
