Jeymes Samuel (born July 27, 1979) is a talented British artist. He is known by his stage name The Bullitts. Jeymes is a filmmaker, singer, songwriter, music producer, and composer.
In 2021, he won a big award called the BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer. He won it for his first full-length movie, The Harder They Fall. This movie came out in 2021.

About Jeymes Samuel's Journey
Jeymes Samuel started making films when he was very young, at just eight years old. He began making music a bit later, at 13. In the year 2000, he released his first song, "When It Rains." It was a 12-inch single released under his real name.
In 2002, he put out a project called Urban Folk Music: The Prequel. That same year, he sang background vocals on a song for the American rapper Talib Kweli. In 2004, he wrote a song called "Serenade" for Icelandic singer Emilíana Torrini.
Jeymes started using his new stage name, The Bullitts, in 2007. He released a song called "The Bullitts Theme." In 2009, he helped write and produce three songs for British singer Mr Hudson.
In 2010, Jeymes joined a choir called The Purple, The People, The Plastic Eating People. This choir sang background vocals on two songs for the band Gorillaz.
FlixTapes and Music Videos
Around 2010, Jeymes started uploading "FlixTapes" to YouTube. He used the name The Bullitts, inspired by the 1968 movie Bullitt. In these videos, he added his own vocals to famous movie and TV themes.
In April 2011, he released "Close Your Eyes." This song was the first single from his upcoming album. It featured American actress Lucy Liu and rapper Jay Electronica. The music video for "Close Your Eyes" was a new version of an old film.
The second single, "Landspeeder," came out in May 2011. This song was later used in the soundtrack for the 2011 British movie Demons Never Die.
In July 2011, he released a short film called "Weirdo." It starred Jesse Williams. The film showed two young lovers in paper-bag masks in London. Jeymes also directed a film noir in Paris for Jay Electronica's song "Run and Hide."
Jeymes performed at The Big Chill music festival in August 2011. Lucy Liu, Jay Electronica, and actor Idris Elba joined him on stage.
His third single, "Supercool," came out in October 2011. The music video showed him dressed as a homeless person. He met actress Rosario Dawson, and they had a dance-off in London.
In 2011, he wrote "Wonderful Life" with Estelle Swaray for her album. In 2012, he was chosen by director Baz Luhrmann and rapper Jay-Z. He became the Executive Music Consultant for the soundtrack of The Great Gatsby movie.
Directing Films
In early 2013, Jeymes wrote, directed, and scored a short film. It was called They Die By Dawn. The film had many famous actors like Michael K. Williams and Erykah Badu. It was a Western movie set in 1890 Oklahoma, featuring black cowboys.
His first album as The Bullitts was named They Die By Dawn & Other Short Stories.... It was released on July 9, 2013. Jeymes produced the whole album himself. It featured artists like Jay Electronica, Lucy Liu, and Tori Amos.
In 2021, he directed and helped write The Harder They Fall. This was a new kind of Western movie. It starred Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, and RJ Cyler. The movie had been planned for many years.
In 2022, Netflix announced that Jeymes Samuel will direct movies based on the comic books Irredeemable and Incorruptible. Also in 2022, it was announced that musician Kid Cudi would direct a film called Teddy. Jeymes Samuel will be an executive producer for that movie.
His Artistic Style
Jeymes Samuel says he sees himself as a "folk musician" at heart. He uses his voice and acoustic guitar a lot. His music often has a "cinematic" feel, like a movie. He has even made a short film for most of his music releases.
In an interview, Jeymes explained his musical influences. He listens to hip-hop artists like Wu-Tang Clan and Jay-Z. He also enjoys folk artists like Crosby, Stills and Nash and Joni Mitchell. He mixes all these different styles in his film and music work.
Personal Life
Jeymes Samuel's older brother is Henry Samuel, who is famous as the musician Seal. His mother, Adebisi Ogundeji, is from Nigeria. His father, Francis Samuel, is Afro-Brazilian.
