Early Life and Music Start

Ty Dolla Sign was born Tyrone William Griffin Jr. on April 13, 1982, in Los Angeles. His father, Tyrone Griffin, was a musician in the band Lakeside. Growing up, Ty Dolla Sign met famous artists like Earth, Wind & Fire and Prince through his dad. This helped him fall in love with soul music from a young age.

He started his music journey by learning to play the bass guitar. Later, he taught himself to play drums, guitars, keyboards, and the MPC. Ty Dolla Sign and his music partner, Kory, signed a record deal with Venus Brown and Buddah Brown Entertainment. They released a mixtape called Raw & Bangin Mixtape Vol 2.

On May 26, 2015, he released "Only Right," the first song from Free TC. It featured TeeCee4800, Joe Moses, and YG. The second song, "Blasé", came out on June 26, 2015. It featured Future and Rae Sremmurd. "Blasé" became a very popular song, selling over a million copies. Another song from the album, "Saved" featuring E-40, also became a hit.

His first album, Free TC, was released on November 13, 2015. It reached number 14 on the Billboard 200 chart. In February 2016, Ty Dolla Sign was featured on the Fifth Harmony song "Work from Home". This song became a huge success, reaching number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.
