Vladimir Stojković (born July 28, 1983) is a professional football player from Serbia. He plays as a goalkeeper.

Throughout his career, Stojković played for the two biggest football clubs in his home country: Red Star and Partizan. He also played for teams in nine other countries, including Sporting CP in Portugal.

Stojković played for the Serbian national team 84 times. He was chosen to play in three World Cups and the 2008 Olympic Games.

Early Life and Family Background

Vladimir Stojković was born in Loznica, which was part of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia at the time. He grew up in a family of athletes. His father, Vladeta, was also a football goalkeeper. His mother, Kosa, was a track and field athlete who competed in events like the discus throw.

Following his father's path, young Vladimir started playing football as a goalkeeper. He joined the youth team of his local club, FK Loznica. Soon after, he moved to the youth academy of Red Star Belgrade, a much bigger club.

Club Football Career Highlights

Starting at Red Star Belgrade

Stojković joined the main team at Red Star Belgrade in 2001. At first, he didn't play much because another goalkeeper, Vladimir Dišljenković, was the main choice. He played only two league games in his first two seasons.

In 2003, Red Star loaned Stojković to FK Leotar in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Leotar was getting ready for the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds. He played in all four of their qualifying matches. After two months, he left Leotar and tried to get back into Red Star's team, but the coach sent him away. He then trained on his own while waiting for a new club.

Playing for FK Zemun

In early 2004, Stojković joined FK Zemun. He was a backup goalkeeper at first. His first game for Zemun was against his old team, Red Star. Even though Zemun lost, he saved a penalty kick. He played six more league games that season.

In his second season with Zemun (2004–05), Stojković became the main goalkeeper. He played in 28 league games. He had a great game against Red Star, making many saves in a 0–0 draw. This result helped FK Partizan win the national championship that year.

Returning to Red Star Belgrade

In 2005, Stojković returned to Red Star Belgrade. He started as a backup, but his coach soon made him the main goalkeeper. He played very well, especially in the UEFA Cup.

One of his most memorable moments was saving a penalty kick from Antonio Cassano when Red Star beat A.S. Roma 3–1 at home. Stojković became a fan favorite. That season, Red Star won both the league and the cup, completing a "double."

Moving to FC Nantes and SBV Vitesse

In 2006, Stojković moved to FC Nantes in France. He started well, but his performance dropped, and he lost his starting spot. He then went on a six-month loan to SBV Vitesse in the Netherlands in January 2007. He played eight games for Vitesse.

Time at Sporting CP

On July 11, 2007, Stojković signed a five-year contract with Sporting CP in Portugal. He started well but got injured. After recovering, he couldn't get his starting spot back and became a third-choice goalkeeper.

In 2009, Sporting loaned him to Getafe CF in Spain. He made his debut for Getafe in April 2009 and played well, even against FC Barcelona. Getafe wanted to keep him, but they couldn't agree on a price with Sporting.

Stojković returned to Sporting but still didn't play. In late 2009, he was loaned to Wigan Athletic in England for six months. He played a few games for Wigan, including his Premier League debut, but he made some mistakes. Wigan decided not to sign him permanently.

Joining FK Partizan

On August 27, 2010, Stojković joined FK Partizan in Serbia on a one-year loan. This move was very controversial because Partizan is the biggest rival of Red Star, his former club. Stojković had even been made an honorary member of Red Star just two months before.

Despite the controversy, Stojković played his first game for Partizan on September 4, 2010. He also played in the "Eternal Derby" against Red Star. After the game, which Partizan won 1–0, he showed a T-shirt that said, "Please Forgive My Ugly Past." He said he was showing his feelings, not trying to cause trouble.

On August 11, 2012, Stojković scored his first career goal from a penalty kick in a 7–0 win. In 2013, Partizan fans voted him their Player of the Year.

Later Career Clubs

In January 2014, Stojković signed with Ergotelis F.C. in Greece. He played 11 games for them.

On June 10, 2014, he joined Maccabi Haifa F.C. in Israel, signing a three-year contract. He played 66 games for them and won the Israel State Cup in 2016.

In 2016, he returned to England to play for Nottingham Forest F.C. in the EFL Championship. He played 20 games for them.

On August 15, 2017, Stojković returned to FK Partizan. He helped them qualify for the Europa League group stage. He was named Man of the Match in a derby game against Red Star. In 2018, after the club captain retired, Stojković became the new captain of Partizan.

On July 28, 2021, Stojković joined Al-Fayha FC in Saudi Arabia. On May 19, 2022, he helped Al-Fayha win their first-ever title, the 2022 King Cup Final.

International Football Career

Stojković was a backup goalkeeper for the Serbia and Montenegro under-21 squad that reached the final of the 2004 UEFA European Championship. He didn't play in that tournament.

Stojković was chosen for the Serbian senior squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, even though he hadn't played for them yet. He was a backup goalkeeper. After the World Cup, he became the main goalkeeper for the newly independent Serbia, making his debut on August 16, 2006.

He played well during the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign, making many great saves. He continued to be the main goalkeeper for Serbia.

In July 2008, Stojković was chosen to be one of the older players for the Serbia Olympic team at the 2008 Olympic tournament in Beijing. He was named captain and played in all three group games. In one game against Argentina, he saved two penalty kicks.

Stojković continued to play regularly for the national team. He was part of Serbia's squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. He played all three group games and helped Serbia win 1–0 against Germany, saving a penalty from Lukas Podolski.

After a period away from the national team, Stojković returned in 2011. On October 11, 2014, he saved a late penalty in a Euro 2016 qualifier against Armenia, which helped Serbia get a 1–1 draw.

In June 2018, he was selected for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he played all three group stage matches.

Personal Life

In June 2009, Stojković married his girlfriend Bojana. They had a son together before divorcing in 2014.

Vladimir's older brother, Vladan, was also a football goalkeeper. He played most of his career in Portugal.
