Xie Xingfang (born September 8, 1981) is a retired Chinese badminton player from Guangzhou, Guangdong. She was a two-time world champion in women's singles and was once ranked as the World No. 1 player.
Xie Xingfang started her amazing badminton journey by winning a big title in girls' doubles. This was at the World Junior Championships in 1998, where she played with her teammate Zhang Jiewen. She also won a bronze medal in mixed doubles at the same event with Cai Yun. After joining the Chinese national team, she decided to focus on playing singles.
The year 2004 was a huge turning point for her. She started winning many important tournaments around the world. Xie and her teammate Zhang Ning were the top women's singles players during the mid-2000s. People often admired her elegant way of moving on the court, thanks to her height and slim build. Her strengths included her long reach, quickness, steady play, and excellent understanding of the game. She was also a key member of China's world champion Uber Cup teams in 2004, 2006, and 2008.
Xie Xingfang played her last major badminton competition at the National Games of China in October 2009.
Throughout most of her badminton career, Xie was in a relationship with another famous Chinese badminton player, Lin Dan. In 2006, both Xie and Lin won their respective women's and men's singles titles at the IBF World Championships in Madrid. Xie had also won the world title in 2005. Xie Xingfang and Lin Dan got married in Guangzhou, China, on December 13, 2010. They have a son named Lin Xiao Yu, who was born on November 5, 2016.
