Europe in 1030
- July 29 — A big fight called the Battle of Stiklestad happened in Norway. King Olav Haraldsson fought against his own people and was killed. Some of the people he fought were called "pagan" because they did not follow Christianity. Later, Olav became a saint and is known as the special protector of Norway. He is also called Rex perpetuum Norvegiae, which means 'the eternal king of Norway'.
- The city of Kaunas in Lithuania was started.
- The city of Tartu in Estonia was also started.
- The town of Thalwil in Switzerland was first mentioned in writings.
- Henry I of France fought against his father, King Robert.

- A famous Song Dynasty historian from China, Ouyang Xiu, passed a very hard test. He was 22 years old and this was his third try. This test, called the jinshi degree, allowed him to work for the government as a scholar-official.
- The Byzantine Emperor Romanus III attacked Syria.
- After his father Mahmud died, Masud became the new ruler of the Ghaznavid Empire.
