In 1063, the city of Pisa in Italy launched a successful naval attack. Their ships sailed against the Muslim-ruled city of Palermo in Sicily. This attack was led by Giovanni Orlandi. It was done to help Roger of Hauteville achieve his goals in the region.
A major battle also took place on May 8. The armies of the King of Castile and the emir of Zaragoza fought together. They might have been led by a famous knight known as El Cid. They defeated the army of Aragon at the battle of Graus. The King of Aragon, Ramiro I, was killed in this battle. His son then became the new king.
