In the Roman Empire
- The Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius had to deal with a big problem: a general named Avidius Cassius, who was the governor of Syria, started a rebellion. Emperor Marcus Aurelius managed to stop this revolt.
- Soon after, Avidius Cassius was killed by some Roman officers. This ended his rebellion.
- Later in the year, Commodus, who was Marcus Aurelius's son, was given the important title of Caesar. This meant he was being prepared to become the next emperor.
In Asia
- In China, scholars who followed the teachings of Confucianism tried to keep their influence in the royal court. However, they faced a terrible event when many of them were killed by powerful court officials known as eunuchs. Eunuchs were often trusted servants in the palace, but sometimes they gained too much power.
