Carthage: A New Peace
- Hannibal, a famous general, told Carthage to ask for peace with the Romans.
- This brought an end to the long and difficult Second Punic War.
- Carthage then became a client state of Rome. This means it was a country that Rome protected and controlled.
- After the peace treaty, Hannibal was chosen as the suffet of Carthage. This was like being the chief leader.
- The suffet job was not usually very powerful, but Hannibal made it very important.
Roman Republic: Rewards and New Lands
- The Romans took control of Malta from the Carthaginians.
- In Rome, land was given to soldiers who had fought in the Second Punic War. This was a reward for their service.
Greece: Battles and Alliances
- Philip V of Macedon captured the island of Samos. He also took the Egyptian navy ships that were there.
- After this, Philip V started a war against Chios, an island to the north.
- The people of Rhodes and their friends, Pergamum, Cyzicus, and Byzantium, joined their navies.
- They fought against Philip V in the Battle of Chios and won.
- Philip V's main ship got stuck and was hit by two enemy ships.
- The king of Sparta, Nabis, attacked and captured Messene again.
- The Spartan forces left when the Achaean League army arrived. This army was led by Philopoemen.
- Philopoemen then defeated Nabis's army at a place called Tegea.
