Adams County is a special area called a county in the state of Mississippi. It is located in the southern part of the United States. In 2020, about 29,538 people lived here. The main town and government center is Natchez.
Adams County was the very first county created in what was then the Mississippi Territory. This happened in 1799. The county is named after John Adams, who was the second President of the United States at that time. Adams County is also part of the Natchez micropolitan area. This area includes Adams County in Mississippi and Concordia Parish in Louisiana.

History of Adams County
Adams County was formed on April 2, 1799. This was 18 years before Mississippi became a state. Many important leaders have come from Adams County. Five people who became governors of Mississippi were from here. They were David Holmes, George Poindexter, John A. Quitman, Gerard Brandon, and William Allain.
Before the US Civil War in 1860, Adams County was very wealthy. It was known as one of the richest counties in the United States. This was mostly due to its successful farms and trade.

Adams County covers a total area of about 488 square miles. Most of this area, 462 square miles, is land. The rest, about 25 square miles, is water. This means about 5.2% of the county is covered by water.

All students in Adams County attend schools in the Natchez-Adams School District.
Alcorn State University has a campus in Natchez. This university is a historically black college, meaning it was first set up to educate Black students. It offers business and nursing classes. Students can earn a Master of Business Administration degree there.
Copiah–Lincoln Community College also has a campus in Natchez. It is right next to the Alcorn State University campus. Students can take many different courses here.
