Aeschi is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Solothurn. You can find it in the Wasseramt district. A beautiful lake called Burgäschisee is in the forest near the border with Seeberg.

Aeschi covers an area of about 3.8 square kilometers (1.5 square miles). A large part of this land, about 63.2%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 17.4% of the area.

Around 14.5% of Aeschi's land has buildings or roads. About 4.2% is covered by rivers or lakes. A very small part, about 1.1%, is unproductive land. In 2012, Aeschi grew bigger when it merged with the nearby municipality of Steinhof. Its total area became about 5.4 square kilometers (2.1 square miles).

The town is in a hilly area formed by ancient glaciers, called a moraine landscape. It sits along the main road between Solothurn and Herzogenbuchsee. Aeschi includes the main village of Aeschi and a smaller settlement called Burgäschi. Burgäschi used to be separate but rejoined Aeschi in 1994.

The blazon (description) of Aeschi's coat of arms is quite detailed. It shows a red background with a black cross that has anchors at its ends. Below this cross, there is a golden angled plate. Around the plate, there are four golden stars. At the very bottom, there is a green hill with three small peaks.

Aeschi has a population of about 1,000 people. Most people in Aeschi speak German, which is about 96.1% of the population. Albanian is the second most common language, spoken by about 2.2% of residents. A small number of people, about 0.5%, speak Italian.

In 2008, about 52% of the population were men and 48% were women. Most residents were born in Switzerland. About 35.9% were born right in Aeschi. Another 19.4% were born in the same canton, Solothurn.

The age groups in Aeschi are varied. About 6.9% of the population are young children (0-6 years old). Teenagers (7-19 years old) make up about 19.5%. Adults between 25 and 44 years old are the largest group, at 30.4%. About 24.6% of the population are between 45 and 64 years old. Older adults (65 and over) make up about 12.9% of the population.

Important Historical Sites

The Burgäschisee area is very special. It has a prehistoric lake shore settlement. This means people lived there a very long time ago, right by the lake. This site is considered a heritage site of national significance in Switzerland.

The settlement at Burgäschisee Ost is also part of something even bigger. It is one of the Prehistoric Pile dwellings around the Alps. These are ancient villages built on stilts over water. They are so important that they are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This means they are protected for everyone to learn from.
