Heinrichswil-Winistorf was a small town, also known as a municipality, located in the Wasseramt district. This area is part of the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland. It was created in 1993 when two smaller places, Heinrichswil and Winistorf, joined together. Later, on January 1, 2013, Heinrichswil-Winistorf and another municipality called Hersiwil combined to form a new town named Drei Höfe.

History of Heinrichswil-Winistorf

Early Beginnings of Heinrichswil

The village of Heinrichswil was first mentioned in old records in the year 1317. At that time, it was known through a person named Cristan von Heinrichswile.

Joining and Merging Municipalities

For a long time, until 1798, Heinrichswil was linked with Heriswil as a "double municipality." Later, until 1854, it was part of an even larger group called the "triple municipality" of Heinrichswil-Hersiwil-Winistorf. This shows how these small towns have changed and combined over many years.

How the Land Was Used

A large part of the land, about 50.8%, was used for farming. Forests covered about 40.3% of the area. The remaining 8.0% of the land was developed with buildings or roads.

Most of the built-up areas were homes and other buildings (5.4%). Roads and other transport paths made up 2.6%. All the forested land was covered with thick, heavy forests.

For farming, about 41.5% of the land was used to grow crops. Another 6.1% was used for pastures where animals could graze. A smaller part, 3.2%, was used for growing fruits in orchards or grapes for wine.

Location of the Villages

The former municipality was located in the Wasseramt district. It sat on a small hill formed by a moraine, which is a type of landform left behind by glaciers. It was found along the road that connects the towns of Halten and Seeberg. Heinrichswil-Winistorf included the two main villages: Heinrichswil and Winistorf.

Coat of Arms Meaning

The blazon (official description) of the town's coat of arms is quite specific. It is described as Chevrony of four Vert and Argent overall on a Pale Sable a Corn Ear Or. This means it has a pattern of four green (Vert) and silver (Argent) chevron shapes. On top of this, there is a black (Sable) vertical stripe, and on that stripe, there is a golden (Or) ear of corn. This design likely represents the farming and natural features of the area.
