Aetingen was once a small town, also known as a municipality, located in the Bucheggberg area of Solothurn in Switzerland. It was a part of a bigger change on January 1, 2014. On this date, Aetingen and several other nearby towns like Tscheppach, Brügglen, and Aetigkofen all joined together. They formed a brand new, larger municipality called Buchegg.

Brittern (Aetingen)

Aetingen has a long history! The first time anyone wrote about Aetingen was way back in 1267. Back then, it was known as Etinge. This shows that people have lived in and around Aetingen for many, many centuries.

What is Aetingen's Geography Like?

Before it joined with other towns, Aetingen covered an area of about 2.9 square kilometers (which is about 1.1 square miles). Imagine a place where nearly half the land (42.4%) is used for farming, growing crops, and raising animals. Another big part, about 42.8%, is covered by thick forests.

The rest of the land, about 14.1%, is where buildings and roads are. This means Aetingen was a mix of nature and human-made areas. All the water in the area comes from flowing rivers and streams.

Aetingen is located in a valley called Limpach. This valley sits along the southern side of a hill range known as the Bucheggberg. The town itself was a haufendorf village. This is a special type of village that grew without a clear plan, so its buildings are often close together and not in neat rows. Aetingen also included a smaller settlement called Brittern.

Aetingen's Coat of Arms

Every town has a special symbol called a coat of arms. It's like a unique flag or logo for the town. Aetingen's coat of arms is described as: Per bend sinister Sable a Semi Lion issuant rampant Or and Argent a Bend of the first.

This fancy description means it has two main parts. One part is black (Sable) with half a golden (Or) lion standing up. The other part is silver (Argent) with a black stripe (Bend of the first) going across it. It's a very old and traditional way to show the town's identity!
