Andreas Öberg's Musical Journey
Andreas Öberg was born in Stockholm, Sweden, on August 6, 1978. He started learning to play the classical guitar when he was just seven years old. By the time he was twelve, he switched to the electric guitar. His teacher helped him discover blues and jazz fusion music, which really inspired him. Later, he studied music at the famous Royal College of Music in Stockholm.
Becoming a Professional Musician
Andreas began his professional music career when he was eighteen. He started working with well-known singers like Viktoria Tolstoy and Svante Thuresson. From 2003 to 2006, he recorded six albums with Hot Club Records. These albums featured other great musicians like Jimmy Rosenberg and Marian Petrescu.
In 2006, Andreas signed with Resonance Records. He described his music at that time as a mix of jazz, funk, soul, Latin, and Brazilian sounds. He even played with the Resonance Big Band on an album that was nominated for a Grammy Award! In 2009, he launched his own website, "Andreas' Guitar Universe," where he teaches guitar online. He has worked with many famous artists, including Barbara Hendricks, Hank Jones, Les Paul, and Toots Thielemans.
Writing Hit Songs
Andreas Öberg was first asked to write a song for a TV commercial in Sweden. After that, he started composing music for Universal Music. He worked with Andreas Carlsson, who encouraged him to write song lyrics too. As a songwriter, Andreas has teamed up with artists like Melanie Fontana and Ludwig Göransson. He has written and produced pop music for artists in Sweden, America, and Japan.
Some of his songs have become huge hits! For example, in 2015, he co-wrote "Romance" for the K-pop group SHINee. Their album, Odd, topped the Korean music charts for two weeks and also reached number one on the Billboard World Albums chart.
In 2016, Andreas co-wrote and co-produced the songs "Mint" and "Chit Chat" for Japanese singer Namie Amuro. "Mint" sold over 250,000 digital copies in Japan! Also in 2016, he co-wrote "Stronger" for the K-pop group Exo. Their album, Ex'Act, sold over a million copies and was the best-selling album in the world at that time.
