Avdullah Hoti's Political Journey
Joining Politics
Avdullah Hoti joined the political party called the Democratic League (LDK) in 2006. He became the vice president of Pristina, which is the capital city of Kosovo, in 2008. He held this position until 2013.
Becoming a Minister and Prime Minister
In 2014, he ran in the parliamentary elections and was chosen to be the Minister of Finance. He worked in this role until 2017. After that, he became the leader of the LDK group in the parliament.
In 2020, he became the First Deputy Prime Minister. Later that year, his party nominated him to be the Prime Minister. There was some discussion about whether he could form a new government. However, on May 28, 2020, Kosovo's Constitutional Court decided that he was allowed to form a government. On June 3, 2020, Avdullah Hoti was elected Prime Minister of Kosovo. He received 61 votes in favor.

Important Agreements and Events
On August 2, 2020, Mr. Hoti shared that he had COVID-19. He had mild symptoms and worked from home for two weeks.
On September 4, 2020, Mr. Hoti and Aleksandar Vučić, the President of Serbia, signed an agreement. This agreement was about making economic relations between Serbia and Kosovo better. It happened at the White House in the United States, with Donald Trump, the President of the United States, present. The agreement aimed for easier travel and trade. Both sides also agreed to work with American banks and join the Mini Schengen Zone. A key part of the agreement was that Kosovo and Israel would recognize each other.
On December 21, 2020, Kosovo's Constitutional Court made a ruling. They said that one vote for Mr. Hoti's government was not valid. This meant his government did not have enough votes to stay in power. Because of this, Kosovo had to hold new elections.
