Avenger Penguins is a fun British cartoon show that first aired in 1993. It was made by Cosgrove Hall Films and Granada Television. The show was also animated by Alfonso Productions, a studio in Spain.

This cartoon was special because it was the last one from Cosgrove Hall to use old-fashioned hand-painted animation. After this show, they started using computers to color their drawings. Avenger Penguins aired on Children's ITV and had 26 episodes between 1993 and 1994. It was almost called Hell's Penguins, but the name was changed to avoid upsetting some viewers.

You can find the whole series on a three-disc DVD set that came out in March 2006.

About the Show's Inspiration

Like many cartoons from Cosgrove Hall, Avenger Penguins liked to make jokes about other popular shows. It especially made fun of cartoons where animals did amazing, impossible stunts. This was a big trend because of the super popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at the time. The main idea of the show is also quite similar to Biker Mice from Mars.

Meet the Characters and Story

The story of Avenger Penguins follows three cool penguins who ride motorcycles. They live in a place called Big City. Their main job is to protect the city and its people from a crazy scientist named Caractacus P. Doom. He's a villain who lives alone and is always planning evil schemes.

The penguins try their best to stop Doom's plans. But sometimes, they get in their own way by misunderstanding each other. They also have to deal with other biker gangs in Big City, like "The Stink Brothers," who are a group of dogs.

The show had famous voice actors, just like other Cosgrove Hall hits such as Danger Mouse and Count Duckula. Mike McShane voiced Marlon, the leader of the penguins. Marlon is brave but a bit clumsy. Mike McShane also voiced the villain, Caractacus P. Doom!

To poke fun at how some cartoons were quickly animated, the show included two characters called "The Badly Drawn Brothers." They always looked like they still had drawing lines on them, which was done on purpose for laughs. The show also had many jokes and references to popular culture. For example, Doom's character was inspired by the famous actor Orson Welles.
