Bae Su-ji (Hangul: 배수지), known to many as Bae Suzy or just Suzy, is a famous South Korean singer and actress. She was born on October 10, 1994. Suzy first became well-known as a member of the K-pop girl group Miss A, which was active from 2010 to 2017.
She started acting in 2011 with the TV show Dream High. Her role in the 2012 movie Architecture 101 made her even more popular. Because of this movie, people in South Korea started calling her the "Nation's First Love." Suzy has starred in many popular dramas like Gu Family Book (2013), Uncontrollably Fond (2016), and While You Were Sleeping (2017). In 2017, she also began her solo music career. More recently, she has gained praise for her roles in the TV series Anna (2022) and Doona! (2023), and films like Ashfall (2019) and Wonderland (2024).

Early Life and Dreams
Bae Su-ji was born in Gwangju, South Korea, on October 10, 1994. Her father, Bae Wan-young, was a coach for the Korean national youth taekwondo team. Her mother is Jeong Hyun-sook. Suzy has an older sister and a younger brother.
She went to the School of Performing Arts Seoul and finished her studies there in 2013. Before she became famous, Suzy worked as an online shopping model. She was also part of a street dancing group. This showed her parents how serious she was about becoming a K-pop idol.
Career Highlights
Starting with Miss A (2009–2010)
In 2009, Suzy tried out for a TV show called Superstar K. She passed the first round but didn't make it to the end. However, a talent scout from JYP Entertainment noticed her. She soon became a "trainee" at JYP, which means she trained to become an idol. In March 2010, Suzy joined the girl group Miss A.
Becoming Popular and Acting (2010–2016)
In October 2010, Suzy became a regular host for the TV music show Show! Music Core. She hosted alongside Minho and Onew from Shinee, and Jiyeon from T-ara. She left the show in October 2011. After that, she hosted other big events like the Seoul Music Awards and Golden Disc Awards.
Suzy also started acting. Her first acting role was in the teen drama Dream High in 2011. She also sang a song for the show's soundtrack, called "Winter Child." The drama was very popular in Korea and other countries. Suzy won the Best New Actress award for her role. She also joined the reality show Invincible Youth 2.
In 2012, Suzy made her first movie appearance in Architecture 101. She played the younger version of the main female character. This movie was a huge success. It became one of the most-watched films in South Korea that year. Suzy also had a supporting role in the romantic comedy Big.
Suzy was the first Korean female celebrity to win a new artist award in four different areas: singing, drama, film, and variety shows. She won the Best New Actress award at the 48th Baeksang Arts Awards for Architecture 101.
In 2013, she starred in the historical drama Gu Family Book. She won awards for her acting in this show too. She also appeared on the talk show Healing Camp, becoming the youngest guest ever on the show.
In 2014, Suzy was cast in the film The Sound of a Flower. She played Jin Chae-seon, who was Korea's first female pansori singer. Pansori is a traditional Korean musical storytelling art. To get ready for the role, Suzy trained in pansori for a whole year. The movie came out in 2015.
In January 2016, Suzy released a song called "Dream" with Exo's Baekhyun. The song quickly became number one on the music charts. She then starred in the drama Uncontrollably Fond. Suzy also sang two songs for this drama's soundtrack. In September 2016, a wax figure of Suzy was put on display at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong. She was the first Korean female celebrity to have her own wax figure there.
Solo Music and More Acting (2017–Present)
In early 2017, Suzy officially started her solo music career with an extended play (EP) called Yes? No?. An EP is like a mini-album with a few songs. Her first song, "Pretend," was released on January 17 and topped all music charts. The main song, "Yes, No, Maybe," came out a week later. In February 2017, Suzy released a duet with singer Park Won.
She then returned to TV, starring with Lee Jong-suk in the fantasy romance While You Were Sleeping. On December 27, 2017, JYP Entertainment announced that Miss A had officially broken up. Suzy decided to stay with JYP Entertainment and renewed her contract.
On January 22, 2018, Suzy released another song called "In Love with Someone Else," which also became very popular. Her second EP, Faces of Love, was released on January 29. On March 31, 2019, Suzy left JYP Entertainment after her contract ended. She then joined a new company called Management Soop to focus on acting.
She starred in the spy-action drama Vagabond and the action film Ashfall. In 2020, Suzy starred in the romantic drama Start-Up. She played a character who dreamed of becoming a successful entrepreneur.
On February 17, 2022, Suzy made a comeback as a singer with a new song called "Satellite." She also sang a ballad called "Because I Love You" for musician Kang Seung-won's album. Helping Others
Suzy is also known for her kindness and generosity. She has made many donations to help people in need.
In April 2014, she donated 50 million Korean Won to help the victims of the Sewol ferry sinking. This money helped with relief efforts and supported the families affected. That same year, she signed up to be an organ and tissue donor.
In April 2015, Suzy joined the Honor Society. This is a special group for people who have donated more than 100 million Korean Won to charity. In June 2016, she gave 10 million Korean Won to families with low incomes in her hometown of Gwangju.
In March 2017, she donated 100 million Korean Won to help patients with medical expenses. On her birthday in 2018, Suzy donated another 100 million Korean Won to help children with cancer and leukemia. In April 2019, she gave 100 million Korean Won to help victims of large wildfires in Gangwon Province. On her birthday in 2019, she donated 100 million Korean Won for children with serious illnesses.
In February 2020, Suzy donated 100 million Korean Won to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and support low-income families. In August 2020, she donated 100 million Korean Won to help victims of floods in Korea. In September, she gave 50 million Korean Won to a campaign that supports the dreams of children from disadvantaged backgrounds. In October 2020, Suzy donated 100 million Korean Won to help patients with serious illnesses and children with cancer.
In May 2021, she donated 100 million Korean Won for Children's Day. This money helped children in orphanages and those who had left foster care. In July 2021, she donated 100 million Korean Won to help premature babies get heart surgeries.
In March 2022, Suzy donated 100 million Korean Won to help victims of a huge forest fire in Uljin. In August 2022, she donated 100 million Korean Won to help those affected by floods in Seoul. In February 2023, Suzy donated 100 million Korean Won to help victims of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. In July 2023, she gave 100 million Korean Won to help victims of floods in Chungcheong and North Gyeongsang Provinces.
