Where the Cass River Flows
The Cass River flows into the Shiawassee River. This meeting point is inside the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge. It's very close to where the Shiawassee River joins the Tittabawassee River. Together, these two rivers form the Saginaw River. The Saginaw River then flows into Lake Huron.
The Cass River passes through or near several towns. These include Bridgeport, Frankenmuth, Tuscola, Vassar, Caro, and Cass City.
Branches of the River
The main part of the Cass River is formed when its North and South branches come together. This happens just south of Cass City.
The Middle Branch
The Middle Branch of the Cass River joins the South Branch in Evergreen Township, Sanilac County. The Middle Branch starts in Elmer Township, also in Sanilac County. The South Branch itself begins in Flynn Township, Sanilac County. This is near the border with Lapeer County.
The North Branch
The North Branch of the Cass River starts from several small waterways northeast of Ubly in Huron County. There's also a South Fork of the North Branch. This fork begins from drains in the southern part of Paris Township in southeast Huron County. The South Fork of the North Branch is formed by drains in Minden Township in north-central Sanilac County. This South Fork then flows into the North Branch in Greenleaf Township, Michigan in Sanilac County.
