Delroy George Lindo (born 18 November 1952) is a talented actor from England and America. He has won many awards for his acting. These include an NAACP Image Award and a Satellite Award. He has also been nominated for a Tony Award and several other important acting honors.
Delroy Lindo moved to San Francisco when he was 16 years old. Before that, he lived in London and Canada with his mother. In San Francisco, he finished his education and started his acting career. He has worked with director Spike Lee on four films. These include Malcolm X (1992) and Crooklyn (1994). He also starred in Clockers (1995) and Da 5 Bloods (2020). His role as a Vietnam War veteran in Da 5 Bloods was highly praised. He won top acting awards for it.
Lindo has also appeared in many other popular movies. He was in Get Shorty (1995) and The Cider House Rules (1999). You might also know him from Gone in 60 Seconds (2000). On TV, he starred in The Chicago Code (2011) and Believe (2014). He also played Adrian Boseman in the legal drama The Good Fight (2017–2021).

Discovering Delroy Lindo's Early Life
Delroy Lindo was born in 1952 in Lewisham, a part of south-east London. His parents were from Jamaica. His mother came to the UK in 1951 to work as a nurse. His father had different jobs. Delroy grew up nearby in Eltham. He went to Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys.
He first became interested in acting as a child. He was in a nativity play at school. As a teenager, Delroy and his mother moved to Toronto, Canada. Then, when he was 16, they moved to San Francisco. At 24, Lindo began studying acting. He graduated from the American Conservatory Theater in 1979.
Delroy Lindo's Acting Journey
Delroy Lindo started his film career in 1976. His first movie was a Canadian comedy called Find the Lady. He also played an army sergeant in More American Graffiti (1979).
For about ten years, starting in the early 1980s, Lindo focused more on theatre. He performed on Broadway in 1982. This was in the play "Master Harold"...and the Boys. In 1988, he was nominated for a Tony Award. This was for his role in August Wilson's play Joe Turner's Come and Gone.
Returning to Movies and Working with Spike Lee
Lindo came back to films in 1990. He was in the science fiction movie Salute of the Jugger. This film later became a cult classic. He had turned down a role in Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing earlier. But Lee later cast him in the drama Crooklyn (1994). This role helped Lindo become more well-known.
He also had important roles in other films. These include Barry Sonnenfeld's Get Shorty (1995). He was in Ron Howard's Ransom (1996). He also played the baseball player Satchel Paige in Soul of the Game (1996).
TV Roles and Voice Acting
In 1998, Lindo played the explorer Matthew Henson in the TV film Glory & Honor. This movie showed Henson's long partnership with Commander Robert Peary. They tried to find the Geographic North Pole in 1909. Lindo won a Satellite Award for his role as Henson.
He continued to work in television. In 2006, he was in the NBC drama Kidnapped. He also had a small, uncredited role in the 1995 film Congo. He played an angel in the comedy film A Life Less Ordinary (1997).
You might have heard his voice on The Simpsons. He guest-starred in the episode "Brawl in the Family". He played a character named Gabriel.
Special Film Projects
In the British film Wondrous Oblivion (2003), Lindo played Dennis Samuels. He was the father of a Jamaican immigrant family in London in the 1950s. Lindo said he made this film to honor his own parents. They had also moved to London around that time.
In 2007, Lindo started working with the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in California. He directed a play there. In 2008, he directed another production of Joe Turner's Come and Gone. In 2010, he acted in Joe Turner in London.
Recent and Future Projects
Lindo was a main actor in the Fox crime drama The Chicago Code (2011). He also starred in the NBC fantasy series Believe. In 2017, he began playing Adrian Boseman in the CBS legal drama The Good Fight. He was a main character for four seasons.
In 2015, Lindo was set to play Marcus Garvey. Garvey was an important historical figure. Lindo has also appeared in action films like Point Break (2015). He was in the drama Battlecreek (2017) and the horror film Malicious (2018). He played Bass Reeves in The Harder They Fall (2021).
His role in Da 5 Bloods (2020) was another collaboration with Spike Lee. He received great reviews and many awards for this role. Entertainment Weekly praised his acting in the Hulu comedy series Unprisoned (2023).
What's Next for Delroy Lindo?
It was announced in 2021 that Lindo will star as Mr. Nancy. This is in the British Amazon Prime miniseries Anansi Boys. He will act alongside Malachi Kirby. In November, Lindo officially joined the cast of the upcoming Marvel Studios film Blade. His role in Blade has not yet been announced.
As of 2020, Lindo is also working on a screenplay. This will be his first time directing a film. It will be about the Windrush generation.
Delroy Lindo's Personal Life
Delroy Lindo married his wife, Nashormeh, in 1990. They moved to Oakland, California, in 1996. They preferred the San Francisco Bay Area to Los Angeles. Their son, Damiri, was born in 2001.
Lindo is a big football fan. He supports the team Manchester United.
He became very interested in the Windrush generation. This was partly because of his mother's stories. It was also because of his role in Wondrous Oblivion. In 2014, he earned a master's degree from New York University's Gallatin School. He studied this history further.
He also received an honorary doctorate degree. This was in Arts and Humanities from Virginia Union University.
