Dhani Makalani Jones (born February 22, 1978) is a former American football linebacker who played for eleven seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Michigan Wolverines, earning All-Big Ten honors for three straight seasons. He was selected by the New York Giants in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft and played for the team for four seasons. Jones also played for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cincinnati Bengals. In addition to his football career, Jones hosted the Travel Channel series Dhani Tackles the Globe and the VH1 show Ton of Cash. Jones also was on the CNBC series Adventure Capitalists.

Dhani Jones' Early Life

Dhani Jones was born in San Diego, California. He went to middle school in Potomac, Maryland, where he played basketball. In high school, at Winston Churchill High School, he was a top player. Even though he missed part of his senior season due to an injury, he was still ranked as one of the best linebacker prospects. Dhani also wrestled and ran track in high school.

College Football Career

Dhani went to the University of Michigan. There, he was named to the All-Big Ten team three times. As a sophomore, he helped his team win the national championship in 1997. He played alongside famous player Charles Woodson. Dhani was second on his team in tackles and sacks that year. He continued to be a strong player throughout his college career.

Playing in the NFL

New York Giants

The New York Giants picked Dhani Jones in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft. He was the 177th player chosen overall. He played for the Giants from 2000 to 2003.

Philadelphia Eagles

In 2004, the Philadelphia Eagles signed Dhani as a free agent. While playing for the Eagles, he started in Super Bowl XXXIX, which is the championship game of the NFL season. The Eagles released him in 2007.

New Orleans Saints

Dhani signed with the New Orleans Saints in July 2007. However, he was released by the team before the regular season started.

Cincinnati Bengals

Later in 2007, Dhani signed with the Cincinnati Bengals. He played for the Bengals until 2010. After the 2010 season, his contract ended, and he became a free agent. Dhani Jones officially retired from football in October 2011.

Dhani Tackles the Globe

Dhani was the star of a Travel Channel show called Dhani Tackles the Globe. In this show, he traveled around the world to learn and play different international sports. For example, he played rugby union for an English club. The show ran for two seasons.

Adventure Capitalists

He was also a host and investor on the CNBC series Adventure Capitalists. This show started in 2016. On the show, Dhani and other investors listened to new business ideas. They would try out products from entrepreneurs who wanted to start outdoor or adventure companies. Then, they would decide if they wanted to invest money in these companies.

Business Ventures

Dhani Jones has started several businesses. In 2010, he opened the Bow Tie Cafe in Cincinnati, which sells coffee and sandwiches. He is also a partner at VMG Creative, a creative agency in New York City. Dhani also founded his own creative agency called Proclamation in Cincinnati. He is the chairman of Qey Capital Partners, an investment fund. Dhani is also the CEO of Petram Data, a company that uses AI to help businesses with marketing and keeping customers.

Personal Life and Hobbies

Besides his football and business careers, Dhani Jones has many other interests. He started a company that sells fancy bowties. He also used to write movie reviews for ESPN.com.

Dhani loves cycling and often rode his fixed-gear bicycle to practices and games. He even took part in a cycling challenge on the Travel Channel show Man v. Food. In 2011, he released a book called The Sportsman: Unexpected Lessons from an Around-the-World Sports Odyssey. The book shares his experiences from football, travel, and life.

Dhani is also involved in many charities in Cincinnati, Ohio. He serves on the boards of organizations like Breakthrough Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Art Museum. In 2010, he started his own charity called BowTie Cause.
