The football (soccer) tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics was a big event. It took place in France from July 24 to August 10, 2024. The teams found out who they would play against at a special draw in Paris on March 20, 2024.
Matches were played in seven different cities across France. These included the main Olympic city of Paris, plus Bordeaux, Décines-Charpieu (near Lyon), Marseille, Nantes, Nice, and Saint-Étienne.
There were two main competitions: one for men's teams and one for women's teams. Football teams from all over the world, linked with FIFA, played in special games to earn their spot in the Olympics.
For the men's tournament, most players had to be under 23 years old (born on or after January 1, 2001). However, each team was allowed to have up to three older players. For the women's tournament, there were no age limits, so players of any age could join.
The Canadian women's team were the champions from the last Olympics, but they lost in the quarter-finals this time. The Brazilian men's team had won the last two Olympics, but they did not qualify for the 2024 games.
