Grant Holt, born on April 12, 1981, is an English professional footballer. He currently plays for Dereham Town.
During his career, Holt played as a forward for many clubs. He played nearly 100 games for Nottingham Forest. In 2008, he joined Shrewsbury Town and became their top goalscorer. A year later, he moved to Norwich City. There, he won the Norwich City Player of the Year award three times in a row. He helped Norwich get promoted twice in a row. He also became the sixth highest goalscorer in their history. After retiring from football, Holt became a professional wrestler. He signed with the World Association of Wrestling.

Grant Holt's Football Journey
Starting Out in Football
Grant Holt began playing football as a young player at his hometown club, Carlisle United. When he was 18, he left Carlisle and joined Workington. After doing well at Workington, he signed with Halifax Town in the Third Division. He scored a goal for Halifax in a cup game.
In 2001, he went on loan to an Australian club called Sorrento. Then he played for Barrow. Later in 2001, he went to Singapore to play for Sengkang Marine. He thought he would return to Carlisle United, but they had money problems and couldn't sign him. So, Holt went back to Barrow and also worked part-time in a factory.
Holt played for Barrow for two seasons. He tried out for full-time teams but didn't get signed until 2003. That's when Sheffield Wednesday signed him. He played 30 games for them, scoring four goals. Holt then moved to Rochdale. He played 83 games and scored 42 goals for Rochdale. He felt this was his big chance. In January 2006, Nottingham Forest paid £300,000 to sign him.
Time at Nottingham Forest
Holt had a slow start at Forest, scoring four goals in his first few months. In November 2006, he decided not to move to Bristol City. Even though he was often a substitute in the 2006–07 season, he scored 18 goals. This made him the club's top scorer. Forest fans voted him 'Player of the Season'.
In 2007, Holt wanted a better contract, but Forest said no. He still said he was "happy to stay" with Forest. However, he only scored three goals that season. He often played as a winger, which was not his usual position.
In March 2008, Holt went on loan to Championship club Blackpool. He played four games as a substitute. After returning to Forest, he wanted to fight for his place.
Playing for Shrewsbury Town
On June 24, 2008, Shrewsbury Town paid £170,000 to sign Holt. This was a record for the club. Holt scored on his first game for Shrewsbury, a penalty in a 4–0 win.
On October 7, 2008, Holt scored five goals in a cup match against Wycombe Wanderers. Shrewsbury won that game 7–0.
By March 2009, it was reported that Holt ran the most distance per game in League One and League Two. He ran about 4.8 kilometers (3 miles) per game. At the end of the season, Holt was the joint-top scorer in League Two with 20 goals. He also won the League Two Player of the Year award. He was named Shrewsbury Town Player of the Year and was in the League Two PFA Team of the Year.
Success at Norwich City
On July 24, 2009, Holt moved to Norwich City for about £400,000. He signed a three-year contract.
Holt's first game for Norwich was a tough 7–1 loss. But he scored his first goals for Norwich with three goals (a hat-trick) in a cup game on August 11, 2009. His first league goals came on August 22, 2009. The new manager, Paul Lambert, made Holt the team captain. He won the League One Player of the Month award in October 2009. He scored 20 goals by December 2009. He finished the season with 30 goals in 44 games. Norwich won the League One championship and were promoted. Holt won the Norwich City Player of the Year award.
In the 2010–11 season, Holt scored his first league goal in a 1–0 win. He scored his first league hat-trick against rivals Ipswich Town on November 28, 2010.
While at Norwich, he scored his 150th career goal. He reached 50 goals for Norwich City on April 2, 2011, with another hat-trick. He was nominated for the Championship Player of the Year. He won Norwich's player of the season award for the second year in a row. Norwich was promoted to the Premier League.
Holt played in the first game of the 2011–12 Premier League season. This meant he had played in all four English football divisions. He scored his first Premier League goal in the third game against Chelsea. He scored 15 league goals that season. He was voted player of the year for the third time in a row. He was even considered for the England squad for the 2012 European Championship.
In May 2012, Holt asked to leave Norwich, but the club said no. He signed a new three-year contract in July. He played 34 league games in the 2012–13 season, scoring eight goals. He scored in his last game for Norwich, a 3–2 win.
Later Football Clubs
Holt joined Wigan Athletic on July 8, 2013. He scored on his debut for Wigan in a 4–0 win. He also scored a penalty in another game.
In January 2014, Holt joined Aston Villa on loan. He made his debut five days later. He scored his first Aston Villa goal in April 2014. He played ten games and scored once before returning to Wigan.
In September 2014, Holt joined Huddersfield Town on loan. He made his debut the same day. His first goal for them came in October 2014. His loan was extended.
He returned to Wigan in December 2014 after knee surgery. In October 2015, he went on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
On February 18, 2016, Holt joined Rochdale again. In June 2016, he signed with Scottish club Hibernian. He scored seven goals in 39 games for Hibs. The team won the 2016–17 Scottish Championship. Hibs released Holt in May 2017.
In October 2017, Holt signed for King's Lynn Town. Less than a month later, his old club Barrow asked him to join as a player-coach. He moved to Barrow.
On July 16, 2018, it was announced that Holt would leave Barrow. He played three games for Wroxham in 2019–2020, scoring two goals. He made three more appearances for Wroxham in January 2022, playing in defense.
In February 2024, he became part of a group that partnered with Dereham Town. As part of this, he was registered as a player.
Coaching Career
Holt's first coaching job was at Barrow. He was a player-coach for the 2017–18 season.
In August 2018, Holt announced he was stopping his playing career. He accepted a coaching job with Norwich City, working with their youth academy. In December 2021, Holt left Norwich to become a scout for West Ham United.
Wrestling Career
In May 2018, Grant Holt signed a professional wrestling contract with WAW. He won his first match by being the last person standing in a 40-man Royal Rumble. This earned him the Crusher Mason Memorial Trophy. He wrestled three matches in total, winning all of them. His last match was in June 2019.

Grant Holt was born in Carlisle, Cumbria, England. He is married and has three daughters.
