Hölstein is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the Waldenburg district, which is part of the canton of Basel-Country.

History of Hölstein
Hölstein was first mentioned in old records between the years 1101 and 1103. Back then, it was known as Hulestein.
Geography of Hölstein
Hölstein covers an area of about 6.03 square kilometers (2.33 sq mi). A large part of this land is used for farming, about 43.3%. Forests cover another big portion, around 39.8% of the area.
About 14.8% of Hölstein's land is developed with buildings and roads. A small amount, 0.8%, is made up of rivers or lakes. The rest, about 0.2%, is land that isn't used for anything.
The town is in the Waldenburg district. It includes the main village of Hölstein, two smaller settlements called Gründen and Holdenweid, and 15 individual farmhouses.

Most people in Hölstein speak German, making up about 91.2% of the population. Italian language is the second most common language, spoken by 2.2% of residents. Albanian is third, spoken by 2.0%. A small number of people, 14, speak French.
In 2008, the population was almost evenly split between males (50.7%) and females (49.3%). Most residents, 84.2%, were Swiss citizens, while 15.8% were not Swiss.
