History
This museum and hall of fame began in the Mission District of San Francisco, California, on October 24, 1998. It became a non-profit organization on June 23, 1999. This means it's a group that works for a good cause, not to make money.
The idea for the museum came from Gabriel "Tito" Avila Jr. He was a semi-professional baseball player from New York City who lived in San Francisco. Avila wanted to honor the best Hispanic baseball players of all time. He created the museum as an international group dedicated to recognizing their impact on baseball. Since it started, the museum has welcomed seventy-four people into its Hall of Fame. These include players, coaches, broadcasters, and even players from the Negro leagues.
