Indira Radić (born Indira Subotić on 14 June 1966) is a famous Serbian pop-folk singer. She became very popular in the music scene of the countries that used to be part of former Yugoslavia, and also in Bulgaria. She mostly sings in her native language. From 1992 to 2015, she released 16 albums. Her music mixes elements of pop, dance, and traditional folk music. This special style, called pop-folk, brought her great success across the region.

Early Life and Education

Indira Radić was born as Indira Subotić. Her parents, Živko Subotić and Rosa Radić, were Bosnian Serbs. She was born in the village of Dragalovci, which is near Doboj. Her father named her after Indira Gandhi, who was the Prime Minister of India. He admired Gandhi's political work.

After finishing primary school, Indira went to a medical high school in Doboj. She later worked as a nurse in Zagreb for three years.

Music Career

Early Career: 1992–1998

In the early 1990s, Indira Radić took part in a singing contest for new singers. She was chosen to be in the final competition in Sarajevo. However, the event was canceled because the Bosnian War started in 1992.

A few months later, Radić got in touch with a record company called Diskos. She recorded her first album, Nagrada i kazna (Prize and Punishment), in 1992. She worked with the band Južni Vetar on this album. After her first album came out, she moved to Belgrade with her family to focus on her music career.

She recorded two more albums with Južni Vetar: Zbog tebe (Because of You, 1993) and Ugasi me (Turn Me Off, 1994). After these, she released her first solo album in 1995. It was simply called Indira and was released by the record company PGP-RTS.

In 1996, Radić joined Saša Popović's production team, ZaM. There, she recorded three more albums. The first was Krug (Circle), which helped her become even more famous. Next came Izdajnik (Traitor, 1997) and the award-winning album Voliš li me ti (Do You Love Me, 1998). These albums led to many successful performances and tours for Indira.

Rising Stardom: 2000–2009

In 2000, Indira Radić continued working with Grand Production (which used to be ZaM). She released the album Milenijum (Millennium) that year. In 2001, she released Gde ćemo večeras (Where Are We Going Tonight).

A very important moment in Radić's career happened in 2002. She recorded a duet song called "Lopov" (Thief) with Alen Islamović. He was a singer from the famous Yugoslav rock band Bijelo Dugme. This song was a mix of folk melodies and Western pop music, creating a pop-folk sound. The duet became a huge hit.

In 2003, Radić released the album Zmaj (Dragon). This album included many popular songs like "Moj živote dal si živ" (My Life, Are You Alive), "Tika-tak" (Tick-Tock), and the title track. Zmaj won many awards, including Album of the Year and Top-selling Album. Songs from Zmaj were even translated into other languages like Bulgarian, Romanian, and Greek.

Indira Radić first became very successful in countries like Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia, and Montenegro. She then went on a big tour across the Balkans. On 27 April 2004, she held her first major concert in Belgrade at the Ranko Žeravica Sports Hall. It was one of the most successful concerts in the music business at that time.

In 2005, she received an award in Bulgaria for being the "most popular and best singer in the Balkans." Between 2004 and 2006, Radić had many successful tours. In 2006, she received an award for holding the most concerts.

Radić released the album Ljubav kad prestane (When Love Ends) in 2005. It featured popular songs like "April." In 2007, she released Lepo se provedi (Have a Good Time). In 2008, she released the album Heroji (Heroes). On this album, she sang a duet called "Hajde sestro" (Come On, Sister) with singer Ksenija Pajčin. In December 2008, the full album Heroji was released.

In 2009, she received the Singer of the Year award. Later that year, Radić recorded a duet called "Možda baš ti" (Maybe Just You) with Ivan Plavšić. All the money from this duet went to charity. Because of this, she won the Big Heart Award from Put humanizma (Path of Humanism) and the Princess Katherine Karađorđević Fund.
